Carlos Lopes is a singer, composer and songwriter from Cape Verde. His musical universe lies in between the traditional rhythms of his native island and soul music.
Always supported by a very enthusiastic and faithful audience, he won the 1st Estrela Pop Prize in Paris, presided by the notorious cape verdean singer Marianna Ramos. Estrela Pop is a Musical TV Show aiming at discovering the new talents of the cape-verdean diaspora around the world. Consequently to this award, Carlos Lopes will be touring the islands of his native archipelago and recording live for the national cape-verdean Television starting march 2013.
Very passionate about his music, he has been touring very intensively since 2008, performing on many different stages from the “Nice Jazz Festival” to the “Auditorium du Conservatoire” or the “Salle Stéphane Grapelli”.
His first Album “Canta pa Squéci” (Sing to forget) is about to be released. To prepare his first solo album he is surrounded by first class musicians like Matthieu Eskenazi (Bass), Thomas Ostrowiecki (Percussions), Denis Tchangou (Drums & Percussions), Julien Pestre (Guitar) and Cathy Renoir (Vocals).
In this first album, most of the songs are based on traditional rhythm patterns as the Batuku, the Morna or the Funana inherited from the african roots of his native island of Santiago.
In his lyrics, Carlos Lopes uses a very subtle vocabulary, midway in between the traditional voices of his ancestors and contemporary poetic figures. On stage, his long lasting dance sessions inevitably irradiate his audience who just cannot avoid moving along with him on those far away rhythms the entire show.
