Founded in 1996, Adam Beyerʼs Drumcode has become synonymous with all that is exciting about techno. Having completed a landmark year in 2011 with the labels 15 Year anniversary celebrations that included a 12-date club tour and a 28-track various artist compilation, Drumcode gets back to the future in 2012 with a busy schedule of releases. Followers of Drumcode over recent times will recognize some familiar names within the schedule with projects confirmed from Adam Beyer & Joseph Capriati, Ben Sims, Alan Fitzpatrick, Kaiserdisco and Sam Paganini.

As Ben Simsʼ own biography puts it, “if you know techno, you know Ben Sims”. The simple truth behind this statement says it all about a DJ and producer whose standing, as one of the scenes leading exponents, appears to be as evergreen and unshakable as it ever has been in his long an illustrious career. It was then with great pride and much excitement that Drumcode released Benʼs ʻSmoke & Mirrorsʼ album in 2011; very much a discography highlight for Drumcode and one of the most significant releases of the year for many others within the techno scene. An album in the true sense of the word, ʻSmoke & Mirrorsʼ drew critical acclaim from all corners, not least for the retro-future vision with which Simsʼ lays out his blueprint for what techno can and should be; proving to those that needed reassurance that Ben Sims is the jack-master of the techno trade.

With the irresistible force of his recent contributions to the label still reverberating strongly throughout all parts of techno and beyond, Drumcode welcome back Ben Sims for another inspirational and incendiary EP of his trademark grooves. Beginning where Benʼs ʻSmoke & Mirrorsʼ album left off, Air Rage EP has Sims on serious underground form; laying down punishing party grooves of abrasive, rolling rhythms while making space for splashes of full-force funk and enchanting melodic moments. Simsʼ intuitively daring use of these contrasting energies is the source of this EPs intoxicating appeal with examples evident within all four tracks. Whether it is the looping robotic bleeps on The Parade; the funked-up electro stomp of Air Rage; the otherworldly strings in Move In Time or the harmonic bell chimes within Machine Funk.

techno circle. "DUMPFE TRÄUME" is written for the charming German Vampire Movie "WIR SIND DIE NACHT" (We Are The Night, out on October 28th), directed by Dennis Gansel. An edit of the song finds its way on the O.S.T. of the movie by Ministry of Sound. The Shitkatapult single release also features KNOW ME from her last album
EVER SINCE and it´s exclusive instrumental version. We are the night....

Gregor Tresher thunders back with his second solo EP for Drumcode. Gregor has been busy throughout 2012 with lots of new material and remixes being released on Cocoon, Ovum and Music Man and has released lots of new music and remixes on his very own imprint, Break New Soil. Break New Soil was launched in 2009 and has gone from strength-to-strength. Highly regarded within the tech- house world, the imprint has releases from the likes of Bart Skils, Karotte, Dosem and Gregor himself. DJ’ing across the world every week to packed out clubs and rocking the party deep into the early hours of any morning, he knows how to work a crowd.

Gregor has delivered four outstanding tracks for Drumcode that are creative, whilst still functional. Relevance uses a filtered, bubbling synth line and sparse percussion effectively to build a groove that will rip through any club. System X uses a detuned synth stab and an unusual bass line harmoniously to construct a track that sounds like its from out of space. Secura is a straight-laced techno groover that uses some distinctively unfamiliar sounds. The track is gelled together with a repetitive hum sound that adds to the groove. The fourth track on the EP; Call To Arms, uses a melodic rhythmic sequence and reverberated drums to eloquently smash any dancefloor.

The one and only Alex Di Stefano is back on Respekt with some down and dirty action, which kicks off on the heels of a tight rhythm section competing with bubbling subs and effect-laden wizardry.&#8220;Love And War&#8221; is a more dubbed-out affair, employing spacious audio manipulation and Alex&#8217;s trademarked pitched-down vocals and micro-riffs, fined tuned for cranial meltdown.

In the same vein as her recently launched MOOD imprint, Believe is suited to a number of atmospheres and settings. Across the nine original productions and one collaboration with label boss Adam Beyer, Nicole has crafted a sonically diverse long-player of sounds which draw on the plethora of styles electronic music has to offer. From her accustomed techno to twisted house and everything in-between, the stylistic variety on offer means cuts Believe will easily feature in more intimate settings and big-room venues alike. Believe features a host of tracks aimed squarely at the clubs. From the moody Movin On, the bass-heavy Do Your Thing, to the industrial techno grooves on Come And Lay and the hypnotic chanting vocal on Get On It, the techno-aficionados will not be disappointed with what is sublime set of cuts that will no doubt destroy any dance-floor. 

In contrast however, there are more intimate moments to be found. For example the rhythmically entrancing yet uplifting Fly With You, to Liberum Spirita with its mazy ethereal breakdown, and the synth-heavy percussive builder Lumière Tamisée. Nicoles further flexes her production muscle with the stripped back dub-flavours of Big Love With No Apology, and a robotic groove-laden funk on the standout Can I Get Some. Believe delivers a consummate body of work with which Nicoles considerable abilities in the studio are clear for all to hear. A wide-range of sounds that is sure to appeal to the idiosyncratic tastes of the various sub-sections of electronic music community. Furthermore, it lives up to the high-standards of previous Drumcode long-players and is an engrossing and impressive debut; and one that offers a smooth segue into the next chapter of an already exciting career.

Techno at it&#8217;s finest ! This is exactly the case with this release on Respekt Recordings by the label bosses Spektre! The original mix of &#8216;Erase The Tapes&#8217; builds with the trademark by Spektre while smooth dark drums and atmospheric elements are all over in this techno journey. The remix by Jon Rundell uses a hard drum loop providing by a smooth bassline. At the end Luigi Madonna takes control and that works just right in keeping the techno groove going. Not too much to say for this monster release by Spektre.
