While one may disagree with the rhetoric and politics...it is hard to not admire the gesture.

Regardless of how one may feel about the historical and geopolitical justification for #Putin's actions in Ukraine, one cannot DE-legitimize Zelenskyy's right to defend his home, his country...his people.

Should our homes be threatened, most of us would do the same. It may very well be that Volodymyr Zelenskyy has secured a hallowed place in history...and so has Vladimir Vladimirovich.

Time will tell which of the two will be remembered with honour...and which with scorn.

I wrote this piece to try to convey what most of us feel when we see images and hear the sounds of the tragedy unfolding in Ukraine: Anger, Sadness, Despair...and the real sense of loss,. We weep at the loss of a place and a time  that has been forever changed. IF and WHEN Kyiv falls, the whole of Ukraine will weep...and the world will weep along with it.

This is worth repeating: I think the #West should start making a distinction between #Russia's government of the day, and the #Russian people. The vast majority of whom either have no horse in this race, or oppose the war in any safe way they can. They ARE NOT the enemy!

That said, We shouldn't buy the fallacy #Russia loses its ability 2 fight. They possess a vast arsenal of conventional short, mid & long range missiles; stockpiles of #chemical, #biological & #nuclear weapons. Should they B made desperate enough, DO NOT doubt their willingness to use them.

Мы не должны принимать заблуждение, что #Россия потеряет свою боеспособность.  Они по-прежнему обладают обширным арсеналом обычных ракет малой, средней и большой дальности;  огромный арсенал химического, биологического и ядерного оружия.  Если они достаточно..

Не дайте себя одурачить, Китаю не нужна сильная Россия.  Нет, изолированная #Россия идеально вписывалась бы в стратегию #Китая: богатая ресурсами, политически изолированная страна, которая держит врагов #Китая в страхе, обеспечивая их дешевой и обильной энергией.

I suggest Dmitry Anatolyevich go as an emissary to Vladimir Vladimirovich and convey the messages you all have agreed upon: This adventure in Ukraine must end, or it’s time for the boss to leave his seat at the table.

On the morning of 1 March, a Russian 3M54-1 Kalibr missile struck Freedom Square in central Kharkiv, detonating in front of the Kharkiv Oblast administrative building.

The Slovene consulate was destroyed in the blast. An opera house and a concert hall were also damaged. Total casualties of the strike are unclear, with multiple Ukrainian officials reporting varying numbers; at least 7 were killed and at least 24 were wounded....and so the shelling of Kharkiv began...

When we think of war & its effects, we think of Men, Women...Children. Places of brick, steel and mortal. Things that can be seen, targeted and destroyed. But what about the unborn mind? What does the unborn child feels in the darkness of the mother's womb?

Does the unborn child know about the violence outside. Does she know how cheap & expendable her life is...? Is she afraid...? Does she feel pain...?

Does the unborn know his life may end before it starts...? Does he hate his killers, the butchers who ripped his unformed body from his mother's womb...?

According to Ukraine, more than 100 Russian troops were killed in the battle for the eastern town during the past 24 hours. Ukraine said on Thursday its troops were holding out despite heavy fighting on a battlefield littered with bodies in a salt mining town in Eastern Ukraine, where Russian mercenaries have claimed Moscow's first significant gain in half a year.

The ultra-nationalist contract militia Wagner, run by an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin outside the main chain of military command, claims to have taken Soledar after intense fighting that it said had left the town strewn with Ukrainian dead. Russia says its forces are edging closer to capturing Soledar, a salt-mining town in eastern Ukraine, which would mark an elusive victory for the Kremlin but comes at the cost of heavy Russian casualties and extensive destruction of the territory they claim.

Moscow has held off officially proclaiming victory. "At the moment, there are still some small pockets of resistance in Soledar," Andrei Bayevsky, a Russian-installed local politician, said in an online broadcast. Ukraine has acknowledged Russian advances but Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Malyar told a briefing on Thursday that fighting was still fierce. The Russians were "moving over their own corpses," she said. Reuters was unable to independently verify the situation. “The Russians have literally marched on the bodies of their own soldiers, burning everything on their way,” Kyrylenko said, while reporting that Russian forces had shelled a dozen towns and villages in the region in the past day.

Soledar’s fall would be a prize for a Kremlin starved of good battlefield news in recent months after losing the significant city of Kherson in December. It had barely 10,000 inhabitants before the war. Russia has failed in repeated attempts to capture the far more important nearby city of Bakhmut, 10 times as large. Across Ukraine, the front lines have barely budged since Russia's last big retreat in the south two months ago. Kyiv hopes heavy armour from Western allies will allow it to resume advances.

Russian and Western commentators alike saw attempts to shift blame for setbacks in which Russia has lost around 40 per cent of the territory it had seized since February. The Russians’ tactic in the assault on Soledar has been to send one or two waves of soldiers, many from the private Russian military contractor Wagner Group who take heavy casualties as they probe the Ukrainian defences, a Ukrainian officer near Soledar told The Associated Press. Pavlo Kyrylenko, the governor of Donetsk, told Ukrainian state TV that 559 civilians remained in Soledar, including 15 children, and could not be evacuated. “Russia is driving its own people to the slaughter by the thousands, but we are holding on.”

When asked about Prigozhin’s victory claims, Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, told journalists: “Let’s not rush, let’s wait for official statements. There is a positive dynamic in progress.”

Salting the Earth: The Taking of Soledar, Part II in A min. (OST)

Born in the island of Hispaniola; I am a Software Engineer, Private Researcher, Writer and Self-Taught musician & composer (Classical/Jazz fusion) based in North-West Alberta, Canada. I play Piano, Alto Sax & Latin Percussion. All the compositions in this channel are improvisations. That is, they are Conceptualized, Compossed , Arranged & Performed, for better or worse in real time, in a single take. What you hear is these compositions being born, taking form, as-it-happen. There may be some minimal re-arrangement, editing and/or  post-processing; but the nature of the original composition remains intact.

I am fluent in English, French, Italian & Portuguese. (and others, at novice level) I have a deep and wide musical palette. As long as the music moves me, I am all for it.
