Orbita  [@orbita-berlin],  the Berlin-based collective of DJs and promoters,  promote through their events and musical direction what they like to call “Adult Dance Music,” a concept that pushes back against instant gratification and brings a more mature sensibility to the dance floor.

For the first episode of their Pluto Radio residency, they invited Norwegian producer and DJ Henning Severud, aka @Telephones. After more than ten years in Berlin, he has become a key figure of the underground scene. Through his label, European Carryall, Henning channels a singular character: dreamy, life-affirming, and sensual, qualities deeply cherished in the balearic scene. His monthly radio show, New Massage, on Refuge Worldwide is likewise a real treat.

Scott Hudson — better known behind the decks as Hudson’s Choice — is one of South-London’s up and coming perceptive vinyl diggers and tastemakers. Based in the UK, he’s built his reputation through a deep love for house, disco, and worldly, soulful electronic sounds — both as a DJ and a record-collector. 
 In 2024 he delivered his debut EP, Myatts Field, on Delusions of Grandeur, co-produced with label-founder Jimpster — a release that showcased his ability to weave classic sensibilities with contemporary left-field club energy. 
This “Friends & Family” mix in the spirit of working at Phonica Records, feels like a carefully curated journey through his musical universe. You can expect flickers of deep house, nods to disco and soul, maybe a touch of dubby wanderlust — a mix that reflects his dual life as both DJ and digger, uniting records from different eras and cultures into one seamless set!

Mix of the Week #613: Malkö - Balearia

Ibiza has changed a lot. It isn’t what it once was that’s for sure.

However, from time to time you might just catch a glimpse of what it was and what it still means to an awful lot of people. Andy is an old friend of Ransom Note and for those in the know he’s a bit of an unsung hero having worked behind the scenes at various record labels you probably love. He’s probably signed some of your favourite records but he wouldn’t tell you that himself.

Anyway, a few weeks back he sent us this mix which was a recreation of a set he recorded at Pikes this summer. Pikes remains one of the last strongholds of the culture in Ibiza, a place which represents the very essence of the island and the state of mind.

Think balearic dreams, sunsets and all that jazz. It’s the real deal.

Anyway, Andy soundtracked it and it made us smile.

Andy Whittaker: The 'Line Out' Mix

Moving swiftly onto the dancefloor sounds and back to my mainstay genre, Tech House and Techno, this mix drives the DTDV session into some more rough and rocky terrain. It gets moody as fuck in some places, and there is plenty of energy to keep it driving forwards.

This was laid down at a time when the Minimal revolution was well underway and this elemental quality has certainly crept it's way into the fabric of many of these tracks. Contributions from the likes of Johnny D, Chloe and Pendle Coven are set deep within this particular vein.

I had also recently discovered a new big Techno influence in the form of Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock. The second half of this mix is steeped in that kind of raw, arcane and industrial style of 4/4 that has been such a consistent theme in the Berlin music scene, notably in clubs like <a href="http://www.water-gate.de" target="_blank">Watergate</a> and <a href="http://berghain.de" target="_blank">Berghain</a>. I want to go there so badly! Anyone got a spare few hundred quid?

Music collector, DJ and occasional artist/producer. DJ'ing since 1997, I play a wide range of music that is mainly focused on the deeper/dubbier shades of house, techno & electro. I also love all kinds of eclectic stuff including disco, boogie, Italo, synth pop, nu jazz, jazzdance, lounge, trip-hop, downtempo, dub, reggae, jungle, liquid drum & bass, IDM, electronica, Warp, Ninja Tune etc.

In summer 2013 I set up the Avenue Red (@avenue-red) imprint to push quality material from a wide plethora of DJs and artists who I have particular respect for in terms of their musical output, artistry and dedication to the cause.
