Welcome to another episode of Volume Radio, where Octal Industries joins the studio via phone from his home in Estonia.

OCTAL INDUSTRIES:
Octal Industries is the solo project of Jónas Thor Gudmundsson. The project was originally founded in 2003 by Jonas and Mike Sickinger, the founder of the Octal label. The debut release of their collaboration was the Automatik EP on the Transistor Rhythm output. Couple of years later they joined their friend Deep Chord for a shared 12“ release, which today is a quite a valuable gem for dub techno lovers. The three of them joined hands together later that year to create a 3x12“ release undir the pseudonym Spectral Network. The release was quite limited (111 copies) and was considered one of the most interesting 12“ releases that year by many critics. 
After the release of the Spectral Network eps the duo went for hiatus as other projects took over, also as opportunity for musical collaborations became harder as the Atlantic Ocean divides them. Jonas continued working on other projects as Ruxpin – producing numerous releases along the way. 
In 2011 the duo was asked by the French independent label Entropy Records to do some releases. As Michael was unable to participate, Jonas went on solo and worked on a full-length release, which later became Meeting of the Waves LP. Another remix followed for G.R.I.T. which was hailed by dubtechnoblog.com as the best remix of the year 2012.   
In more recent years, Octal Industries has been working on numerous collaborations with artists such as fellow Icelander OHM - and fruits of their work has been released on labels such as Thule Records, Rawax, Luck of Access, All In Records and many more. 
Octal Industries also released works independently in 2019 an EP entitled Julia Sets on Kontakt Records, which featured a remix from the Detroit legend Mike Huckaby – and his second full-length album Our Seasons, which was released on Vertex in December 2019. 
Octal Industries, although being Icelandic in origin, works and resides in Tallinn, Estonia.

Hello everyone, my name is Ilya, I am a Russian sound producer from the cold region of Siberia, the city of Nizhnevartovsk - Russia. I have been interested in music since childhood, even at an early age I imagined how I would play my music in a club and share my emotions with people. I started my musical journey at the beginning of 2010. It all started with Drum'n'Bass - I preferred the rough Neurofunk genre and the light LuqiudFunk. In 2013 my first release To Day came out under the pseudonym Elay So. But time passed and interests changed, I slowly but surely switched to Underground music. Now I'm producing deep dub electronic music, it's an exploration of sound, a mixture of melodic riffs, flowing atmospheres and electronic beats. I believe that without music life would be a mistake. This mix is a house music depth charge! It pays homage to the early deep house sounds that have been so inspirational for me, and many of the tracks featured here are personal all-time favourites. Kicking off with an epic, eerie late-90's cut from Fonka Delix, AKA Tech House messiah Terry Lee Brown Junior, the mood is set for what is to come for the next 80 minutes: blissed-out beats, warm basslines and atmospheric, meandering melodies. Proper spliff tunes that elevate your state of mind to a place better than the norm.

The transitions in this mix are especially smooth and seamless, as you will gather from the first mix into Kevin Yost & Peter Funk. Two back-to-back mixes of a classic E-Tones record inject the beach vibes, Nick Holder's "Trying To Find Myself" gets you lost in the dancefloor of your mind and the Sheffield boys known as SWAG get things groovin' strong with their classic remix of Gamat 3000's "Whispering". A very listenable mix of quality, timeless house music from the archives to complete the 4-part set.

Music collector, DJ and occasional artist/producer. DJ'ing since 1997, I play a wide range of music that is mainly focused on the deeper/dubbier shades of house, techno & electro. I also love all kinds of eclectic stuff including disco, boogie, Italo, synth pop, nu jazz, jazzdance, lounge, trip-hop, downtempo, dub, reggae, jungle, liquid drum & bass, IDM, electronica, Warp, Ninja Tune etc.

In summer 2013 I set up the Avenue Red (@avenue-red) imprint to push quality material from a wide plethora of DJs and artists who I have particular respect for in terms of their musical output, artistry and dedication to the cause.
