Quadrant Soundscape presents In Focus 005

The 5th installment of our In:Focus Series delves deep into a record label that we have a lot of love for. They have such a diverse array of sounds and styles that you can keep going back to again and again.

 We present to you, Ornaments.

  Ornaments was started back in 2008, and has been home to some of the worlds finest purveyors of the deep. Just a quick flick through the discography and you’ll find names like Rhauder, Paul St. Hilaire, youANDme, Moodymann, The Analog Roland Orchestra, Carlos Nilmmns, Rennie Foster, Sascha Dive, Steve Bug and Mathimidori to name just a few.

  As a label Ornaments covers a huge variety of sounds. You can find everything from Ambient, Deep House, Dub House, Hip hop, Dub Techno and minimal.   

Their most recent record came from Wareika with his LP - Tizinabi and is the 54th release. As is the case with all the mixes in our InFocus Series, the problem is not what to include but what can we possibly leave out. It’s safe to say however that due to variety of musical output by Ornaments that we will certainly be re-visiting the back catalogue for a part 2 at some point in the future.

In Focus 005: Ornaments

We close out this 10-years of Avenue Red mini series with a debut mix from veteran crate digger and deep house & techno specialist, Tomas Bexton from Maidstone in Kent, England. A vinyl-only session. This is mostly comprised of some of our all-time favourite oldskool deep house gems, mixed with utmost smoothness! 10/10.

"I am not a professional DJ or a music producer, you could call me a long-standing vinyl collector of electronic and (mostly) house music since the 1990's. This mix focuses mainly on deep house with a definite nod to a couple of decades back at least.

My aim is to let the records and music do the work, with (hopefully!) a smooth mixing style. I want to feel a sense of peace through the records, maintaining the deep feel throughout. Electronic and minimal influences are of course also thrown in. Honoured to be allocated a podcast slot! I hope people enjoy the mix to round off the 10-year celebrations mini series." This occurred when Rodney from the Woods attended an event a couple months back and got in touch with the friendly Julius, who appears to be a huge contributor to the scene and, above all, a likeminded soul to the Stately sound. 

Having spent years collecting records and being a dedicated admirer to the scene, Julius has over time mastered the craft himself as well, which he proves by delivering this stellar mix to our podcast series. It’s safe to say that this is one of the highest quality mixes on our channel so far.

I also love all kinds of eclectic stuff including disco, boogie, Italo, synth pop, nu jazz, jazzdance, lounge, trip-hop, downtempo, dub, reggae, jungle, liquid drum & bass, IDM, electronica, Warp, Ninja Tune etc.

In summer 2013 I set up the Avenue Red (@avenue-red) imprint to push quality material from a wide plethora of DJs and artists who I have particular respect for in terms of their musical output, artistry and dedication to the cause.
