This is an AMEB (Australian Music Examination Board) Series 17 Grade 6 exam piece by Danish composer Niels Wilhelm Gade (1817 - 1890). 

There are so many intricacies involved in this romantic piece that every touch makes a difference. This recording does not do justice to the dynamic range that can only be felt in a live performance. Nonetheless, I hope you get the idea. The subtlety of phrasing and pedalling work requires a deep understanding of the emotions involved, one I feel is reminiscent of a tension between two lovers engaged in a dialogue. There are intense moments in this piece  that are quickly resolved and perhaps, giving way to a sense of resignation. 

I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I enjoy playing it . . . over and over and over again :)
