This assignment fitted with the track I was working on at the time, a single-take improv on a recent Naviar Haiku Challenge track. I simply added some reverb to mask a couple of misjudged moments and a “space” version courtesy of Abstract Chamber. I enhanced the fade-in and fade-out which were a bit faint.

The title is from Ray Bradbury’s “The Fog Horn”

“I'll make me a sound and an apparatus and they'll call it a Fog Horn and whoever hears it will know the sadness of eternity and the briefness of life."

DARK AMBIENT - ECHOES FROM THE VOID

The latest Métron Musik Mixtape is something of an unusual treat. Not much is known or written of UK based artist Ishq, and fittingly his music is as hard to pin down as the artist himself. It’s therefore an honour that he was willing to provide us with this mixtape, a 90 minute exploration of unexplored aural pastures - showcasing old and new music from the mysterious producers wonderfully rich and beautiful discography. Within it Matt Hillier spans the depths of planetary oceans, searches the far reaching vacuums of the cosmos and prods at rarely accessed parts of our own reality.

‘Ishq’ roughly translates as ‘love’ but the word is used in Persian and Arabic literature with a broader definition, a relationship between man and its creator. There’s a sense of the divine and spiritual in the 90 minutes of music here. The Cornwall based producer taps into something seemingly larger and more cinematic than our every day existence. Somewhere out there that we kind of know but rarely visit. 

Turn it up, close your eyes, and explore his world.

Prairie is the project of multi-instrumentalist and producer Marc Jacobs, hailing from Brussels with roots in The Netherlands. On stage, Prairie plays with two or three musicians and together they re-create a free association of musical ideas and atmospheres. Prairie has played in selected venues and festivals across Europe  and for instance toured with Apparat.

“And the Bird Said: Cut Me Open and Sing Me” is the second full length album on Denovali Records.

This album was inspired by the silence of the birds, by the tone between a mother and her daughter, by the Sandsnipe twins, by constant wailing sirens, by the memory of a Vangelis track. Composed in the city, in his studio Les Lacs and in the mountains of the French Cévennes, Jacobs integrates his various recording locations into his magnificent sound design. By using various recording techniques, analog gear, guitar pedals, synths, amps and human voices, “And the Bird Said: Cut Me Open and Sing Me” creates a fountain of sound layers which coalesce to synthetic and noise infused manipulations, dramatic crescendos and subtle field recordings.

Jacobs focuses on melodies, sometimes hidden melodies, or straight out melodies that took him back to various musical influences, current ones but also from his past, lurking into pop and loving imperfection. The lyrics of "Cut me Open" are the spine of the record, the scenario where various species of birds lead the way, and where each track is a short chapter of the flight.

Jacobs once again showcases a deep sensitivity to narrative and rich cinematic textures by creating a technicolor soundtrack.

The ninth edition of the #Sonogramma podcast, dedicated to ambient, experimental and electronic music, offers a mix from the curator of the Simphonic Silence Inside label, Ilya Symphocat, composed of tracks previously released on SSI. The sound compilation includes the works of such musicians and projects as Mono Tape, Sistal, Notnotice, Abjective, SAM, Waveskania, Retablo, CH40 and the works by the author of the mix.
Simphonic Silence Inside (SSI) was founded in 2007 in the southern city Rostov-on-Don. It combines the qualities of a community that unites creative people, develops the local scene and invites foreign artists, a promo group that creates audio-visual concerts, festivals, show cases, as well as a digital label that publishes albums on streaming services from musicians from all over Russia. The social vector of SSI remains unchanged to this days. The label moved to St. Petersburg and is based in the art center “Pushkinskaya-10”, holding concerts of ambient and experimental music in the walls of the Museum of Sound / ESG-21.
