Been a fan of the jaw harp since I was a small child. My dad was a master at it and he taught me a little. I have not owned one in years. Maybe it’s time to get one and use it in my music!

A month or so back my good friend Ian Tait messaged and sent me a cover of a Deep Purple song he had done the music to, and asked if I would like to sing it. Well to be honest normally I would jump at the chance, but when I seen the song of theirs he wanted me to sing, I knew it would not suit my voice and instantly another clouders voice who I knew who would be perfect to do the job sprang to mind. So I gave him my recommendation for the job and told Ian to get in touch with him.

Now I do not know if Ian had done, but as he asked me in the first place, it was about a month prior to this, I happened to hear a superb instrumental piece he put out on his cloud, he entitled "Le Mans" and at the time I heard the piece I actually thought about messaging Ian myself to ask him if I could write some lyrics to it and sing it. So now was my perfect opportunity to ask him, as I did not really want to let him down in the first place.

There is no doubt in my mind that Ian's instrumental track "Le Mans" is bang on perfect to the title of the famous motor racing event and sport. Ian had also mentioned to me at the time he sent me his music, that I could change the title if I liked, and as a rule I never like to, as it already gives me a subject matter to write about and in reality is a great starting point. But straight away I knew that this particular subject of motor racing was never gonna be something I wanted to write about. Simply because this sport and cars for that matter do not interest me one bit. So I very much decided to change the title to "Breaking Point" and go in an entirely different direction regarding the subject matter for the lyrics I wrote here, to which I still feel works very well with Ian's superb music. 

In order to make "Breaking Point" work for me as a singer, I very much had to chop up Ian's music and rearrange and piece it together to suit all the parts I wanted to sing in it. In doing so, I had to throw out a lot of Ian's great guitar work, and even though my version is only 1 minute shorter than Ian's, there is in fact a lot more I have thrown out of his original piece to make this work. So I really do suggest you do if you get the chance, give Ian's original track a blast, it really is superb.

Changed World

As a retired professor of Anthropology and African Cultural History, I am fascinated with the music of all parts of the world. I have lived in Eritrea and Italy. I have visited Israel, Spain, Greece, Germany, United Kingdom, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania (Zanzibar), Senegal, and Mexico. I have made several African instruments and love the chance to hear someone play an instrument I've never before encountered. Synthesizers and electronic music have opened up a new world of musical expression for many of us, including me. I love to play with digitally sampled "ethnic" voicing and then mix it with analog and synthetic sounds. My compositions are generally midi sequences and embody my attempts at trying to make sense of this life I live.
