The next chapter of our voyage brings us in Mexico at the special place of the vulcan Popocatépetl. There's a serious story about this vulcan...

The Legend of Popocatépetl & Iztaccíhuatl - The Sleeping Lovers

These are two volcanoes located in central Mexico, southeast of Mexico City, on the border of the states of Puebla and Morelos.
The two volcanoes are visible from afar and literally dominate the horizon - as if eternally gazing at each other.

The name Iztaccíhuatl means "The White Woman" in Nahuatl, and Popocatépetl means "The Smoking Mountain."

According to Aztec legend, Iztaccíhuatl was a beautiful princess, in love with the brave warrior Popocatépetl.
Her father, a king, sent Popocatépetl to war against an enemy nation and promised him his daughter's hand in marriage if he returned victorious.
But a rival falsely told Iztaccíhuatl that Popocatépetl had fallen. In her grief, she died of heartbreak.
When Popocatépetl did return alive, he found her dead.
He carried her body to the mountains, laid her down, and remained by her side.
The gods, moved by their love, transformed them into two volcanoes:

Iztaccíhuatl, the sleeping woman with her silhouette (head, chest, abdomen, feet) visible in the mountain line,

Popocatépetl - the sleeping lover - is the smoking mountain that still breathes fire out of grief and love for her, and that is what this dance track is about.
