The latest EP arriving via renowned Munich/Cologne-based label, Jazz & Milk, finds two kindred spirits teaming up for the first time; multi-instrumentalist and producer, Àbáse, and Australian Nu-Soul drummer and studio wunderkind, Ziggy Zeitgeist (who we recently covered on the site with his smash Kreuzberg Kix). Through their mutual love for experimental live instrumentation and modern club music, they have formed Àbáse X Zeitgeist, with Body Mind Spirit EP serving as their official calling card.
	Packed in this sprawling, densely layered EP is a dizzying array of various styles, genres, and musical ideas. Much of the EP derived from improvisatory sessions between Àbáse and Ziggy in Ziggy’s Berlin studio. The two of them spent hours going back and forth, with Àbáse laying down improvised keys and synth work over Ziggy’s drum patterns, who would then mix them to delightfully quirky and eclectic results. The result is something that feels palpably organic and loose, yet grounded in the duo’s affinity for vibey, hard-hitting dance-music grooves. Case-in-point is the centerpiece of the EP, the title track, “Body Mind Spirit”. Coupled with South African-born, Berlin-based artist and singer, Dumama––who brings a stunning traditional South-African vocal performance to the arrangement––the track is a vibrant, hypnotic, eclectically playful cut of world-music-leaning Deep House. 
	On this track, and across the entire EP, the duo displays a formidable knack for taking disparate inspirations and infusing them with their own unique sense of groove-building. There is a deep sense of collaboration and mutual respect for each artist’s singular creative vision that courses throughout the entire project, indicating an exciting, creatively fruitful musical partnership that is only just getting started.

First Word Records is pleased to welcome back Souleance with a brand new single for Summer 2022! 'GUILI GUILI' is a double AA side 7" single, with an additional remix by Art Of Tones on the digital version.

French slang for "tickle", 'GUILI' is an epic disco-funk piece inspired by the likes of Azymuth, Herbie Hancock and Marcos Valle, but incorporated with Souleance's trademark sounds of fuzzy bass-heavy electronica, synths and samples, giving the track a fresh contemporary twist. Meanwhile, the (digital only) Art Of Tones mix ramps up the disco elements heavily, incorporating some vocals, strings and horn stabs to create some sure fire heat for the summertime. 

The flipside 'TORO' is amuch more tweaked-out, synth-heavy bomb, influenced by artists such as Prince, Parliament and French electronic club music. All tracks mark the evolution of the duo into a full live band, whilst remaining true to their sonic mission of producing music crafted especially for the dancefloor.

The band have been performing live at various festivals and venues across Europe, with upcoming appearances scheduled at the Pura Vida Festival, Greece in August and Jazz à Vienne in July.

This two-track vinyl 7" / three-track digi-single is released on First Word Records, worldwide on May 27th 2022.

Midnight Generation - Sign Up (Feat. Leron Thomas)

The newest addition to the Matasuna Records label roster is Greek producer and beatmaker Kill Emil. For the upcoming 7inch vinyl single he delivers two great Afro-Tropical joints.

Kill Emil has been on the road for almost a decade and has a remarkable output of singles & LPs on various labels. Rooted in Hip Hop he produces tracks with different influences from all over the world. Sophisticated beats, positive grooves and warm loops characterize his sound and make him a sought-after producer and live performer. So it's not surprising that he regularly tours all over Europe.

The opening track Matata is a midtempo groover with rhythmic guitar melodies, catchy brass lines and mystical vocal parts. Kill Emil skilfully embeding them into his beat framework by adding various effects and echoes to create a new and hypnotic sound. A delicious Afrolatin joint that gets you moving!
On the flipside another tropical gem delivering some Latin madness. With Humanidad Kill Emil shows his beatmaker skills by chopping the samples, reassembling them and adding some heavy breaks and percussions to boil a hot and stirring mixture. NYC Salsa at its best!

In a world of widening extremes, plastic fills the oceans, an insect apocalypse threatens the delicate balance of natural ecosystems and a million dead fish rise from the depths of the Murray-Darling Basin. Dread and hopelessness come naturally in the face of these overwhelming crises, but optimism still manages to persist. 

Harvey Sutherland’s rolling samba keeps a relentless pace, punctuated with a loping gospel mantra – they say there’s something in the water – delivered by Jace XL, whose past credits include live and studio recordings with Hiatus Kaiyote; backing vocals for Sampa the Great; and ‘Sacrifice’, a 2016 EP with Silent Jay released on Rhythm Section International. 

SOMETHING IN THE WATER is the first single from Harvey Sutherland’s new studio band, which comprises long-time drummer Graeme Pogson, percussionist Phil Binotto and bassist Luke Hodgson. It was recorded and produced at Harvey Sutherland’s velour-lined recording studio that might just come in handy as a survival bunker when the approaching apocalypse hits Melbourne’s inner-northern suburbs.

From 1998 onwards Alex Cortiz has produced more than 30 albums of deep vibin’ grooves with elements of chill out, nu jazz, cinematic dub, soulful blaxploitation and chilled- and deep house. 
He became one of the leading producers in groovy relax and funky chill out. Often he has been linked to Kruder & Dorfmeister, Air, Nor Elle, Audio Lotion, Dj Cam, Session Victim, Zap, Dazz, Ron Basejam, Solee and lately Nils Frahm.

To dig a bit deeper into the musical carreer of Alex Cortiz... His roots in international dance music go back to 1990, when he produced one of the first worldwide techno club hits as D-Shake with Yaaah / Technotrance. After that he was succesful with a.o. Paradise 3001 (ambient techno) and Flygang (disco) And then, after that… producer / dj Alex Cortiz took over.
