A Clear Horizon

One of the leading names in Paris’ contemporary scene, @zadig-construct_re-form is one of the main forces responsible for the return of the City of Light to worldwide prominence as a centre for forward-looking techno. A participant in the ‘90s French rave scene in the hardcore and acid days, Sylvain Peltier found his true inspiration with the arrival of @axis-jeff-mills, Surgeon (@dynamic-tension), and @joey-beltram and labels like @tresorberlin, Lost, and Synewave and the techno that his style remains rooted in to this day. After moving to Paris in the mid-2000s, Zadig became quickly involved in the beginnings of what would become the present-day Parisian upswing, making an early release in 2006 as Day is Dying on the Rouen-based Euro Visions label. In 2009 he returned, this time as Zadig and this time to stay, quickly forging a relationship with the important @syncrophone label and distributor in Paris. 

There has not been any looking back since, and as Paris’ techno scene continues to rise from the ashes of the early 2000s to the vibrant, world-recognized heights it now occupies, Zadig has made essential contributions to this ascendancy. Starting in 2011, he launched his @construct-reform label, which has gone on to a residency at the legendary @rexclub and continues to debut and support bracing new French talent like @antigone, @voiski, @birthoffrequency, and Zadig himself. His own discography also continues to grow, with releases on the reknown Deeply Rooted House in 2013, the New York-based Chronicle, Children of Tomorrow, and continued support from Syncrophone, as well as compilation appearances on Tresor, @reclaim-your-city, and @studio-r. As Zadig’s reputation as a leader in the French scene has spread, he has gone on to play numerous dates around Europe, with appearances in Berghain and a deepening relationship with Tresor, at both @concreteparis and the Weather festival in Paris, and worldwide in New York and Argentina, alongside scene-leading contemporary talent and legends like Scion, @rodhad, @petervanhoesen, @dvs1, @inigokennedy, @samulikemppi, @jonas-kopp, @johannes-volk, @shifted, @lucy, and many more. 2015 saw the debut of his Unforeseen Alliance live collaborative project with label mates Voiski, Antigone, and Birth of Frequency, all of whom have moved on to increasing success as both Zadig and Construct Re-Form have gained recognition. 

With Paris’ resurgent club scene blossoming to worldwide attention not seen since the ‘90s, it is the dedicated efforts of those like Sylvain Peltier who have helped to bring about this revival and continue to lead it to new heights. As Zadig, as a label head, as a DJ, and as a central figure in its continued growth, he is an essential figure in its present and a leading light for its future.

The 32nd vurt podcast features a 2hour journey by French-based techno producer Gëinst. Raised in the french countryside, surrounded by volcanos, Gëinst's music project is mainly influenced by nature. 

His entry into the world of electronic music has been highly acclaimed with his initial EP Uchronie released by ARTS which allowed him to spray his vibe around the globe and clubs like Trésor, Vurt or Concrete.

Sweetness and roughness combination define his melancholic state of mind.
Severals music identities under his productions, Gëinst strives to understand the inseparable relationship between dance and music. The different mechanisms of repetition, specific to electronic music, the very ones that activate gesture in the body of the piloted dancer, create this kaleidoscopic loop, bright and blurry at the same time.

THE SOUNDS COLLECTIVES IT RUNS DEEP ON DHR WITH MARK MAC

Broken District presents Jus Jam “90s Anxiety”, the first mini LP from the label co-founder, offering a deep dive into his hazy musical world inspired by the nineties aesthetic. A true journey, ranging
from UK garage to dreamy hip-hop beats, early-electro sounds and new-jack swing. After signing a few tracks as part of the imprint’s VA series, it was only a matter of time for Jus Jam to release his
first mini LP on Broken District ! “90's Anxiety” is a contemporary synthesis of the artist’s musical influences, deeply rooted in the 90's
underground culture, such as Hip hop, UK-based club music (garage, jungle, 2-step), broken beat and breaks. With soul and jazz, these are the styles that forged the musical footprint of Jus Jam, often
described as dreamy, contemplative productions boosted by sharp beats and smooth basslines.
On the opening track “Daydream” and its B-side sister “Ryoji’s Dream”, Jus Jam delivers 2 dreamy Hip-hop compositions, halfway between trap-music, seinen manga soundtracks and Lynch’s surreal
cinema. These two ones are made for forward-thinking hip-hop heads.
The A2 track “Neopolis Sound” is a subtle ode to early-electro and breakbeat sounds, but also sci-fi movies and video games from the nineties. It warms the ears for what we consider the highlight of
the LP, “Higher Sense”, a modern and dreamy vision of breaks / jungle music with elements of jazz and ambient. This is Jus Jam’s style at its best, mixing plenty of influences to create something new.
Flipside opens with the title track “90s Anxiety”, a contemporary take on new jack swing mixed with elements of house and funk, brought by the live recorded slap bass. Up next, “Wide” goes full 2-step
garage with its steamy atmosphere, syncopated beat and powerful sub-basses. The break, with its eerie organ keys and violins, makes it an instant classic and unforgettable dancefloor filler.
The above mentioned hip-hop inspired track “Ryoji’s Dream” wraps up the LP and brings a delicate conclusion to this multi-influenced release, once again expanding the Broken District to newer, uncharted territories.

ELLI ARAKAWA

国内で彼女を知る人々のほとんどは彼女(Elli-Rose)をファッションモデルとして認識している人が未だ多いかもしれない。しかし、15年に及ぶその献身的な音楽活動によって、今では確実にダンスミュージックシーンでの”DJ"としての確固たる地位を確立し、その存在感と独自の音楽スタイルによってクラブシーンでも目覚ましい活躍をしているアーティストとして注目を浴びている。

現在では、クラブイベントからビッグフェスまで年間60本以上のブッキングをこなす中、音楽志向の強いマニアックなイベントからも常にオファーが耐えない。疾走感の中にも、時に女性らしいエモーショナルな一面やルーツでもあるUKの雑食性が感じられる彼女のDJ SETは、起承転結のストーリーを創り上げることができる。

フロアの温度感を感じながら、異色な楽曲もスムーズに繋ぎ合わせるスキルも持ち合わせる彼女の音楽性が如何なる現場にも対応出来るDJであることを証明しており、彼女に信頼を置くアーティストやプロモーターは数知れない。

2014年からは、イベントのオーガナイズも行っており、DJとしてのみならず、パーティーとしてより完成度の高い世界観を発信している。近年はヨーロッパやアジアからブッキングも増えている。

2020年、新型コロナウイルスの蔓延下においても、大きな話題となったBoiler Roomへの出演や、Frankey $との配信番組 TELEWORKなどを筆頭にオンラインでもその存在感を発揮した。より奥深い音楽的信念を追求したELLI ARAKAWAとしての活動から目が離せない。

Having spent nine years performing, hosting events and working in art and fashion, Tokyo-based, British-Japanese DJ Elli Arakawa arrives at the next stage in her career. With reinvigorated focus and a clear idea of where she is going, she sees 2016 as something of a turning point.
Inspired by the experiences and styles of techno she was discovering at the Labyrinth Festival, Elli gradually moved away from the eclectic style of DJing she had honed at fashion events, instead refining her taste to deep, purist techno. She plays with high energy and visible enthusiasm, often mixing quickly and catching crowds off guard.
In late 2013 Elli started her own event DUCE at club AIR, inviting Levon Vincent as the first guest. Since then she has hosted Tokyo techno hero DJ Shufflemaster and cemented the party as a go-to for techno fans. Whilst her ambition to tour the world and present her vision of techno overseas is strong, it's no stronger than her love for her home country and the desire to support Japanese artists. Maintaining a club night on home soil is key and DUCE will remain a platform to showcase local talent.
The transition doesn't end there. Elli started producing her own music which is also becoming an obsession towards finding her own sound which we will be expecting to hear in the nearest future.
Also an appearance on celebrated DJ stream DOMMUNE and many festival appearances with some of Japan's very finest in electronic music.
Now with greater scope as an artist and more technical ability behind the decks, it feels like Elli has found the right path, and with that a whole new world of opportunities arise.

From 1998 onwards Alex Cortiz has produced more than 30 albums of deep vibin’ grooves with elements of chill out, nu jazz, cinematic dub, soulful blaxploitation and chilled- and deep house. 
He became one of the leading producers in groovy relax and funky chill out. Often he has been linked to Kruder & Dorfmeister, Air, Nor Elle, Audio Lotion, Dj Cam, Session Victim, Zap, Dazz, Ron Basejam, Solee and lately Nils Frahm.

To dig a bit deeper into the musical carreer of Alex Cortiz... His roots in international dance music go back to 1990, when he produced one of the first worldwide techno club hits as D-Shake with Yaaah / Technotrance. After that he was succesful with a.o. Paradise 3001 (ambient techno) and Flygang (disco) And then, after that… producer / dj Alex Cortiz took over.
