The Pickle Factory hosts another electro special on 10th August, after a sellout party with Arpanet back in October. 

This time, we're proud to host a headline performance from one of the eminent techno DJs of our time, Dr Rubinstein, who prepares a special set of electro, breaks and golden era Detroit sounds. She's joined a rare live performance from Bleep43 founder and one of the UK's most vital electro talents, Plant43; and Freerotation's electro specialist, perennial Pickle Factory favourite and supreme digger Alex Downey.

On the following night after my appearance at Berghain's Saule Space in Berlin, I had the honour of playing a three and a half hour warm up set for one of my musical heroes. 
More details below, taken from the event description on Resident Advisor:

"On 13th October, Pickle hosts an electro special, headlined by a rare appearance from Drexciya and Dopplereffekt creator Gerald Donald, who will perform live as his legendary project Arpanet; his first show under the Arpanet moniker in London for over five years. He's joined by Intergalactic Gary, who prepares a special set of Golden Age electro and breaks from Detroit and the UK. Support comes from Freerotation resident and supreme digger Alex Downey.

Drexciya is a name imbued with deep meaning for electro and techno aficionados. Together with his friend James Stinson, Gerald Donald created Drexciya in the early 1990s, releasing a series of seminal electro records that haven't been matched since. To those who know, some of Gerald Donald's finest work was recorded under the pseudonym Arpanet - electro at its deepest and most strange, brimming with early sci-fi references and afrofuturist subtext. Although he regularly performs as Dopplereffekt on festival main stages and cavernous warehouses, Donald hasn't performed as Arpanet in London for half a decade - until now. On 13th October, Arpanet comes to The Pickle Factory for a rare headline show.

He's joined by a welcome return from Intergalactic Gary. The Hague's finest was last spotted in Bethnal Green tearing the roof off Pickle after Convextion in February. This time, IG prepares a special Electronix set that sees him digging deep into his electro, breaks and Detroit techno collection. Support comes from one the UK's finest electro DJs, Alex Downey. The Freerotation resident has been on our radar for a while - he's a simply sublime DJ of dance music in all styles, rhythms and textures. Yet it's Downey's electro collection that has particularly piqued our interest. His 'Drexciya Wavejumper set', recorded in the Stinson-esque surrounds of Bloc Festival's pool stage, is an essential retrospective on the genre. Alex is the perfect man to warm the floor for an evening of Detroit electro on 13th October. "

London-based DJ Chanel Kadir channels a sound that is anything but basic. If anything, it’s about as expertly woven and layered as Gabrielle Chanel’s famous tweed suits. And, like the popular contemporary fashion house, it’s clear that she appreciates the finer details.

Whether it’s her fascination with leftfield music scenes or her multi-genre mixes that focus on mood, emotion, and texture, her willingness to explore the slower and more intricate corners of the art form – and her ability to freely express herself in such a manner – is refreshing to see from someone, who in her own words; has ‘only been djing a year’.

It’s a modest approach from someone far more advanced than she lets on. A quick look through her resume shows her lengthy tenure in electronic music. Starting out as a journalist and PR agent, her career has led her to work for the likes of Listen Up, Boiler Room, and Draaimolen Festival, as well as running her own PR agency, DAWN Creative, representing the likes of re:ni, CCL, Tristan Arp, Ciel, and more. She has also helped curate @wavdotworld, a mix and editorial series that highlights the ethics and importance around the craft of the DJ mix, while also running her brilliant ongoing mix series @Untitled909.

It’s the latter that has given Chanel a more introspective view into the depths of the craft. As she transitions from one side of the industry to the other – whether for her artists or her sets – it’s becoming clear that Chanel’s appeal lies in her ability to create stories. Her mix is a slow blend of sonically tactile psychedelic techno tracks that gradually merge and evolve into one another. In her interview with //SNCMAG, Chanel talks about her mix, Untitled #909 impact, and the ‘low-end psychedelia’ scene that’s capturing her attention.

Alex Downey has been supporting the UK electronic underground movement as a DJ, record-shop manager and now radio presenter for nearly 20 years. Based in Brighton on the south coast of England, he is arguably the city's most prominent purveyor of all things Techno, where he is a regular fixture at the premier high profile events, alongside acts such as Underground Resistance and Derrick May.  
As the main driving force behind the counter at Brighton's highly respected and much-missed [covert] record store & web-site, he was instrumental in bringing quality Techno & House to the city - and beyond, developing along the way a boundless knowledge, vast record collection and infectious passion for the music that's unmatched by most. 
His musical taste & experience speaks for itself and his nocturnal activities behind the decks have earned him much respect and a great reputation amongst the global electronic community. He has been invited to perform at many key events such as ‘Free-rotation’ in Wales,'The Big Beat Boutique' & 'Stompa-phunk' in Brighton, 'Retro_vert' & 'Wiggle' in London, ‘Labyrinth’ festival & ‘Haus-Tek’ in Tokyo, and at many other far-flung destinations, hundreds of smaller parties and long-forgotten club nights that rocked hard, and kept the lifeblood of the scene pumping. He is currently resident DJ at 'Our Friends Electric' in Brighton as well as the 'Split' / 'B A L A N C E' parties in London where he has recently shared the stage with Red-shape, Dave Clarke, Robert Hood, Luke Slater and Carl Craig, to name a few.
