‘In The Constant Noise’ was recorded outside very late at night using a small hand-held recorder. On each recorded layer the sounds of wind, rustling leaves and other natural reverberations can be heard in the background. By emphasising and celebrating these imperfections, the idea of silence in a world where high noise levels are the norm is explored. The result is a set of songs that, whilst each telling their own story, are unified in a melancholic lament for the sounds that have been lost in the constant noise.

Question everything

Here is a piece for piano and tenor saxophone. Big thanks to <a href="http://soundcloud.com/dgreening" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">♬ Dave Greening</a> for very kindly allowing me to root around in his extensive back catalogue for another tune suitable for collaboration; with it's wide open spaces at the beginning and end and with the beautifully voiced and intense middle section, this piece fits the bill perfectly.
All the different moods in the piece are created and played with gorgeous sensitivity and a sure-footed sense of structure by Dave. It was a huge pleasure to spend time adding an extra layer on saxophone.

Quarter Turns Over A Living Line is the long awaited debut album by Raime. It follows the duo's self-titled 2010 EP and two subsequent 12" singles, 'If Anywhere was here we would know where we are' and 'Hennail'. Moving away from the sample-based strategies that characterised their early work, Joe Andrews and Tom Halstead have looked increasingly to live instrumentation for their first full-length work, mounting intensive recording sessions for percussion, guitar and strings before painstakingly piecing the album together at their home studio. The gothic and industrial signifiers in their music remain, but more submerged and oblique than ever - no less pronounced as influences than jungle's rhythmic dynamism and doom metal's oppressive weight or aspects of techno, modern composition and dub. Quarter Turns Over A Living Line is the first original artist LP on Blackest Ever Black, the young London-based label that has to date released records by Tropic of Cancer, Regis, Black Rain, Pete Swanson, Cut Hands and others. Anjù writes brilliant songs that are simple and direct. There are no pyrotechnics. She manages to imbue them with the deepest of emotions with the pure and intimate tone of her voice and impeccable phrasing and timing. Meanwhile, Michelle just captures the dark melancholy of this song perfectly on the piano. Just such a pleasure for me to be involved with such talent.
