RIP Stevie Hyper D. Well honored remix a track for the 2013 Stevie Hyper D Project. Stevie is a legend in the Jungle DnB scene and his music inspired so man of us. He was one of the pioneering MC's in the Drum n Bass / Oldschool jungle scene. He has been credited with inventing the 'Double Time' MC'ing style, where he would double the speed of the generic MC flow but would still fit within the bars of the music. He was the first DnB MC to have a major release when The Next Step was released on Island Records in 1999. He also had an album The Legend which was released on the independent Drum and Bass label, Dance Concept which was produced by Benny V. These tracks gained airplay on national radio stations KISS FM and BBC RADIO ONE as well as receiving support from the underground pirate scene including Kool FM which was one of the stations he performed on regularly.  His track Buffalo Soldier from the album was nominated for DNBA tune of the year in 2004. Hyper D is widely accepted as one of the true pioneering Drum & Bass MC’s. It is also accepted he was the innovator of the ‘double time’ MC style that’s is commonly used today. Appearing first on the 1991 track Teknoragga, Stevie went on to record tracks across various genres, from Jungle, to Hip Hop and even to House Music. He was the first Drum & Bass MC to secure an album with a major label, Island Records. The Next Step, with his producer Dfrnt Lvls was released in 1999, the year after his death. He held residencies at all the elite Jungle and Drum & Bass Events but it was during his bookings at Labyrinth that he met Benny V. Nothing came of it at the time, but when Benny V also hooked up with Dfrnt Lvls his recorded work was put together again for The Legend album which had tracks played on UK National Radio as well as receiving huge underground support on the pirates.

Last summer, in preparation for the fall tour, I decided to re-master (and in some cases re-create) some Bassnectar classics. I went back into Timestretch & Wildstyle and gave each song special treatment to bring it into a 2014 state of existence: thicker, clearer, heavier, louder, and even more alive. We’ve taken these collections and paired them on CD with releases which had previously been confined to the digital-only realms, with bonus tracks and the new special deluxe RE-DUX! Newer bass heads will be able to enjoy some of this music for the first time, audiophiles can bask in revisiting their favorite tracks with updated masters, and collectors can fill some gaps in their CD discography with first time pressings of Take You Down and Freestyle.

Metalheadz kicks off a very exciting 2014 with a new team of producers for the label. 

Firstly introducing Mako and DLR who are already starting work on their forthcoming combined Metalheadz album project, alongside we have the fledgling talents of Villem and the elder statesmen of the scene Ant TC1 who in his own right has had a hand in a fair share of memorable releases and himself heads up Dispatch Recordings and Metalheadz.

META015 is project that shows a great depth in the talents of the foursome, it’s a beauty and the beast affair, fantastically executed in the great tradition of Metalheadz.
Kicking off with ‘Hungry For Atmosphere’ this stepper is a perfect set opener, heartfelt strings and keys give way to contorted mids and FXs, whilst the familiar vocal is processed into something altogether more sinister. The track clocks at just over 7 minutes and this says everything of the tracks ambitions, not pandering to anything but its own journey.
Next to step into the ring is ‘A Certain Flavour’ the opposite but yet perfectly paired track to go with the A side. Beginning with a very cinematic introduction it unravels into a growling bass led stepper with staccato drums before switching into a two-step drum work out, tailor made for dancefloors and DJs alike.

A release that we are very happy to kick 2014 off with, welcome to the new breed!

DJ Zinc released the original jungle version of the Enya / Fugees 'Ready or Not' white label  bootleg. Another version was released by DJ Aprodite in the Noughties on a limited white label 1000 press and a Zinc remix of the boot came out in the late nineties. 
This version is the exclusive version used in DJ Aphrodite live DJ sets and has never been released.

What a year it's been. Its like since we stopped trying to walk in the path that others have left and create our own paths things have changed. Set Him Up Soldiers (SHUS) and HBS all started out as a bit of a laugh with no intention to become anything other than fun. Now I look behind us and were supported by an army of the best supporters I've EVER seen in Drum and Bass and other genres..

We've created an idea with HBS that has seemed to reach out to people from all different shapes of life. It was a risk to start with and now, is a necessity! I want to personally thank those who really listen to the lyrics, work out the meanings and support the movement. Without you, none of this is possible. If you didn't experience last years madness, then I'm excited for you..If you did...then you know.....The story must continue.......
