This event, presented in partnership with the Royal Society of Literature, took place at The British Library on 24 November 2016. Edmund Gordon, author of the multiple award-winning The Invention of Angela Carter: A Biography talks to Lisa Appignanesi, Susannah Clapp and Pauline Melville, all friends of Carter.

Angela Carter (1940–1992) is one of the most original voices in the 20th century English literature. Her work draws on an eclectic range of themes and influences, from gothic fantasy, traditional fairy tales, Shakespeare and music hall, through Surrealism and the cinema of Godard and Fellini. Her works include novels The Magic Toyshop (1967), Nights at the Circus (1984) and Wise Children (1991), collections of her short stories, among them, The Bloody Chamber (1979) and non-fiction such as The Sadeian Woman: An Exercise in Cultural History (1979).
