The Deity of the Painted Storehouse
In ancient days, when the winds of Lake Van still whispered secrets to the stone walls, the Urartian city of Tushpa held a sanctuary hidden beneath the guise of a simple storehouse. That place, known only to initiates as Arenash, stored not grain or weapons, but visions.
Inside, the walls were covered with ritual paintings: ochre spirals, dancing figures, inverted constellations. Each stroke was a map to the unseen. In the center, on an obsidian pedestal, rested the idol: a serene-faced figure, carved from black basalt, with closed eyes and lips barely curved in an otherworldly smile.
The faithful arrived in silence, guided by the priests of the Inner Mist. They brought offerings: wine fermented with poppy petals, honey collected from the highest cliffs, and herbs that only grew where lightning struck. Upon consumption, the air in the warehouse became dense and vibrant, as if time were folding in on itself.
Then the trance began.
Bodies lay still, but souls danced. Some saw their ancestors walking on rivers of light. Others heard chants in forgotten languages. And a select few claimed to have touched the face of the deity and felt a peace so profound that they wept upon awakening.
It was said that the idol was not merely a sculpture, but a fragment of divine consciousness itself, fallen from the sky in a shower of fire centuries before. Its serene face was not sculpted: it had emerged on its own, as if the stone remembered the form of ecstasy.
But as the centuries passed, empires fell, names were erased, and Arenash was sealed away for fear of its power. Until one day, in modern times, archaeologists found a forgotten warehouse, covered in dust and silence. And at its center, the idol... still smiled.

I needed to write something to  lift my spirits, I know the foot stompin' is a little out of control but when my foot is happy, so am I, so I stuck with the first take. Hope it raises a smile. What's Driving You?

Keep on worrying

I have always admired music, of diverse styles. Like most of us, I have tried learning to play a few instruments at a basic level in my teenage. But it is only now, in the 21st century, that modern software allows anyone to fool around being the composer, the designer of a whole composition, simpler or more complex, organising together the parts of the various instruments - and to hear the results of this experimentation or inspiration instantly! That is how I have recently begun enjoying the distraction of attempts at composing during my leisure, discovering an amazing dimension of life, and art, perhaps the most intangible, heightening and hypnotising one, and the closest to the soul...
