I was deeply saddened by the passing of Keith Emerson. It has been a very difficult few months. We’ve lost several giants. This is a very short but potent homage I wrote for Keith several years ago. I am so sorry that I never got to share it with him. He was a giant as a pianist, organist and synthesist. His playing was outstanding and he gave us so much great music for nearly fifty years.

Conquering and ruling cultures often oppress those they dominate. The oppressed, and those with less power, will always eventually seek justice, representation, and equal power from their subjugators. Those whose culture have been vilified, repressed, and appropriated can regain their power and love by learning about their past, choosing and identifying their cultural heroes for themselves, and restoring their appreciation and celebrations for their ancestors.  

May this song encourage an honest look into your past, acknowledging both the shadow and the light, appreciating the beauty of what was and is, and learning from accomplishments and mistakes to continue our evolution in becoming better co-creators with the planet.

I used some of a bass stem Alpha Roots sent me to make Red Earth Clay and I used the rest of the stem to make Sow Your Seeds. I have one unused bass and drum stem from Alpha Roots that I will make an old school hip hop song with and I may remix his original Hosanna bass stem one day to make a new reggae song. I may also ask Russ if I can make a version of Da Weed using Alpha Roots’ stems one day. After that, I may be complete unless I get gifted some Alpha Roots stems to play with. 

Huge thanks to Chiefo who set the original tone of this song which gave me inspiration for  the lyrics. Big ups to Fady, bit zone, and Lady of Fire Poetry for joining in on this project and adding their collective vibe. Massive thanks to Wou-Wou & the Wormling for keeping the track on skank with his rhythm guitar and for providing us with his incredible art work - commission him for some work y’all!!! I have always admired music, of diverse styles. Like most of us, I have tried learning to play a few instruments at a basic level in my teenage. But it is only now, in the 21st century, that modern software allows anyone to fool around being the composer, the designer of a whole composition, simpler or more complex, organising together the parts of the various instruments - and to hear the results of this experimentation or inspiration instantly! That is how I have recently begun enjoying the distraction of attempts at composing during my leisure, discovering an amazing dimension of life, and art, perhaps the most intangible, heightening and hypnotising one, and the closest to the soul...
