Any artist is welcome to send us a track via freshonthenet.co.uk anytime between Monday lunchtime and Wednesday evening (or when we receive 200 submissions, whichever is sooner) - and all our moderators, including Tom Robinson, will listen to every track. This is our full inbox from the week beginning Mon 27th October 2025: from Friday afternoon you'll be able to hear our shortlist and pick your favourites on this week's Listening Post which will appear at freshonthenet.co.uk/batch587

If a track you submitted does not appear in this list, it’s probably because another of your tracks appeared in our Fresh Faves or on the BBC Music Introducing Mixtape during the last three months — we ask that artists featured on either wait three months before resubmitting to give others a chance. 

We also don’t accept short previews or SoundCloud Go tracks that can only be heard as 30 second previews, and tracks made private after submission, which cannot be included in playlists. You will be able to resubmit the track in future. Tracks (and remixes of tracks) that have been previously submitted, and tracks from banned artists will also be removed.

Christmas songs and the like are also not eligible for the Listening Post, although we will collect these into a playlist that will be published on 24 December.

December is written and lead by multi-instrumentalist, Jeff Smith. Thus, it marks a stylistic departure from the band’s orchestral origins, featuring a minimalistic overture that eases into a delicate piano riff in the minor key. 

Layered with ethereal female harmonies including singer/songwriter Milly Hirst, Jeff’s unaffected vocals cut deep into the marrow, sublime in their simplicity. December ascends through the angular drums of latest band member, Alex Mackenzie - whose trip-hop beat accents the trumpet / violin contrapuntal melodies into a maudlin, macabre Mariachi march.

The song to me is filled with endlessness, and I could play it endlessly, in an endless number of ways. This is what happened when I pursued one of those ways for a little while.

Uncatena (Sylvan Esso Cover)

Deep Dark Blue is a love letter to Lisbon and the lyrics are inspired by Lord Byron's poem "Childe Harold." It centres around the idea of nature enduring all, sometimes even human connection, and acts as a backdrop for Carson's delicate ability to balance instrumentation creating a lavish sonic tapestry that ebbs and flows like the Tagus on a pebble strewn Lisbon beach.



This track features vocals and lyrics by Portuguese aritst Daniela Galhoz



Deep Dark Blue is a stand alone single and will be released on all streaming platforms (except Spotify, because Daniel Ek shouldn't be taking all our money and investing it in AI bombs) on November 4th.

Alexander Carson is a neo-classical, Folk composer and songwriter based in London UK. They were the lead singer, and principle songwriter for genre-fluid group Wooden Arms for the better part of 7 years, Carson is now a solo singer/songwriter in their own right.
