Soundtrack of My Days grew out of a quirky part of my everyday life. But before explaining how this song came to be, you kind of need a little back story...

Music has been part of my life since the wee years of childhood. I’ve always loved the way different melodies and tempos can affect the way we experience moments in life, and I naturally think in rhythms and rhyming patterns. I also tend to have a kind of musical “background track” playing in my mind throughout the day. 

I thought this was normal, but when I was talking with my husband about this, I realized he doesn’t experience it the same way I do, so I tried to explain it: sometimes the melody is fast, sometimes it’s slow, but on an ordinary day, it’s often something that's just light and joyful and accompanies me as I go about my day. And as I thought about that more, I had a realization…what if that sense of joy and melody is, in a way, created by the joy of the LORD and His presence with me? That would essentially make the joy of the LORD the soundtrack of my days.

That idea became the spark for writing this song. I wanted to write for those ordinary moments, like errands, work, quiet moments, and everything in between, all those times when you’re simply going throughout your day with God.

Musically, I wanted the song to feel like that experience. It’s bright, whimsical, and upbeat, but not so energetic that it demands your attention. I wanted it to sit in that sweet spot where you might nod your head, smile, or sneak in a little dance while you walk somewhere. It’s less “get up and dance” and more like a joyful daydream with God playing in the background.

At the heart of it, Soundtrack of My Days is a reminder that worship doesn’t have to be confined to a church setting or a particular moment. The joy of the LORD can accompany us through the whole day, and even the ordinary times in life can become a continual song of praise.

I wrote and recorded this song for my baby girl to be released today on her birthday. My oldest child is my daughter who was 25 today and this song is about her and it's the most beautiful and special birthday present I've ever given her. I've written and recorded many songs for her mother and for my family as a whole but this is the only song I've ever recorded for any of my individual children other than my son who passed away in 2012.
