DJ MK Biography

Most would agree that, no matter where or when they attend a party, the most important aspect of an event is the quality of the music being played. In order to make everybody get into the right mood, you need a good DJ for the night to satisfy both young and old party-goers. Meet DJ MK, born Christopher Maradiaga, who represents the original meaning of the word "DJ": he has his own style, a passion for mixing, and a sharp ear for music. This deadly combination has made him into the DJ that he is today.
Born in Guatemala but originally from Honduras, DJ MK came to Switzerland at the tender age of 3. Like every person in search of an identity, he found his passion in music, listening to old school funk and soul tracks from a young age. But growing up in the city of Bienne, widely accepted as the capital of Hip Hop in Switzerland, it was only a matter of time before DJ MK got his nickname from his peers and was exposed urban music and to the art of DJ-ing. "I was fascinated by it, so I wanted to try it out", says MK. He started off around 1997 through a long-time friend, DJ Prostaff, who taught him how to mix and blend two records using two turntables and a mixer. "He taught me the basics, all the rules. for example, never mix two songs in the middle of the verse, but always after the chorus, I think every DJ should learn the rules before buying a laptop and calling themselves a DJ".
No doubt about it, DJ MK can play Funk, Hip Hop, R&amp;B, or even Ragga and Reggaeton sessions. But one thing is for sure, he lives up to his name, which is based on the legendary Technics turntables. DJ MK sets the roof on fire with his smooth mixes, his amazing music selection and his ability to rock the microphone during his sets. Many of Today's hit songs are full of samples from the classics of Yesterday, which many people forgot about because nobody plays them anymore, but DJ MK takes the listener back to the roots, back to the original sound, and back to the essence of what a party is supposed to sound like. Not only will he play your favorite actual hits, but he can make you ask yourself "I know that song but what's the artist/title? I need this in my life right now!" He has already played in both the French and German parts of Switzerland, and he reckons his greatest reward after a gig is "when people come to me and give me a compliment about my mix." 
This is why every time DJ MK is on the 1's and 2's, he makes the young listener enjoy quality music, but also the older generation the music of their childhood. His hard-work, passion and great attention to the "little details" has brought him success in the nightlife scene in Switzerland. His favorite moment as a DJ was during a set at the legendary "Coupole" in Bienne, which is also considered the "Temple of Hip Hop" in Switzerland, in 2008. In 2009, he joined Supremus Sounds and achieved new milestones in his DJ career, which included taking part in the Frauenfeld Open-Air, Europe's biggest hip hop Open-air. He also showed his skills as an entertainer when he hosted the 2009 Swiss Street Dance Championships. His experiences at concerts have also earned him a place as a support DJ for Method Man and Redman. Another recent highlight for DJ MK was performing on stage as the DJ for Jeru the Damaja and Afu-Ra also as the DJ for Rasco and Guilty Simpson at Splash Festival (Germany). 
DJ MK is the perfect blend between bringing the best out of the past while playing today's quality music. Not only can he play all styles of urban music, he has the foundation and the knowledge which make him into a complete package. With his skills he represents the philosophy of his DJ-team, Supremus Sounds: interesting personality with a gift for music and a high level of quality in his mixing skills. The future looks bright for DJ MK, as he looks forward to rocking clubs around Switzerland as he has been for over a decade, but also on the international DJ scene.
