Nascent is about becoming:

The desire to become a better human being, longing to actively participate in the world around you, striving to actualize your potential, and finding meaning in this process. Over the past 4 years, these have all been things I've struggled to bring to fruition due to my own shortcomings. Nascent is the embodiment of all the emotions which emerged from this struggle.

Writing this album eventually became a source of this conflict. As I created the music which was supposed to help me find peace, I watched the rest of my life begin to atrophy. In many ways, Nascent is also about the writing process and its consequences. Despite this, I would like to believe I've come out the other end having grown because of it.

I am changing. I am learning to be willing, learning to take the shackles off. Who I am and who I want to be are starting to feel like the same person. It's been an insane journey and I am so grateful for it. Thank you everyone for your enduring support and patience. I hope this music finds a place in your life.

In Athens fair, 'neath olive shade, did Hermes dwell, a gentle soul,
No thirst for war within his breast, but love for Aspasia, whole.
Her eyes, like sapphires 'neath the sun, her laughter, music to his ears,
They'd wander hand in hand, and speak of dreams that banished fears.

But fate, a fickle mistress, turned, a shadow fell upon their land,
The drums of war did beat a call, for Sparta's wrath, a vengeful hand.
From Hermes heart, all courage fled, for blood and battle held no sway,
His love for Aspasia, pure and bright, would guide him on a different way.

(Verse 2)
The Athenian host marched forth to war, with banners raised and swords held high,
But Hermes, ostracized, remained, with tears that welled within his eye.
One day, a whisper reached his ears, a chilling truth that stole his breath,
Aspasia, heartbroken, lost her hold, and met her end in cruelest death.

(Verse 3)
From atop the Akropolis, she leaped, the city lights a dizzying blur,
Unbearable the pain of love, a world devoid of him, unsure.
When Hermes heard this mournful tale, his grief a raging, burning pyre,
He cast aside his peaceful ways, consumed by vengeance and desire.

(Verse 4)
He donned his armor, rusty, old, a shield and sword, a warrior's guise,
Alone he faced the Spartan might, with fury flaming in his eyes.
He fought with strength of tenfold men, a madman driven by despair,
Against the tide of Spartan steel, a single flame, beyond compare.

(Verse 5)
But flesh and bone cannot withstand, the crushing weight of endless war,
He fell amongst the fallen ranks, his name unknown forevermore.
In Athens fair, beneath the stars, a whisper floats upon the breeze,
Of love and loss, a tragic tale, of Hermes brave and Aspasia's peace.
So let us raise a mournful cup, for souls entwined, forever crossed,
May love and peace one day prevail, at what a bitter cost... it's cost.
