It was only late last year that PIFF Records dropped their successful first release PIFF001 ‘To Adelaide’, showcasing a palate of uprising Australian producers and including with it an impressive Boiler Room Debut. Now, the Britol record imprint returns with Berlin-based Jesse Bru on solo duties in PIFF002 ‘Heartless Love EP’.

PIFF002 makes for a charming, anecdotal story-teller, cohesive in its structure; Bru is deliberate in his placement of the four well-crafted tracks. Sandwiched in the middle between a lighthearted, playful 8-minutes of A1 ‘Let Me Know’, and the aptly named, moody yet invigorating B1 ‘Late Nite Jam’, is our track of choice.

A2 ‘Heartless Love’ opens with glitches of bright, celestial synth arpeggios ringing above wind-chimes. A fluid, acid bass-line soon pervades, mellow and muffled when held against the crunchy, industrial percussive highs. Bru continues to play with opposites in shaping his bass-drum kicks, contrasting the steady four-to-the-floor thumps with more softly erratic rhythms. The vocal sample is perfectly understated, with each word yearningly suspended a touch longer than anticipated. Adding to the tracks eccentricity, Bru works in bursts of melodic slides, grainy edits and short delays. It’s as if the track drops you into a wavy old colour box-tv set in a dim, yellow-lit room, inviting you on a nostalgic journey of distorted memories and fuzzy dreams.

PIFF002 ‘Heartless Love EP’ rounds off with a bustling B2 ‘Tribute’, but also includes a Bandcamp bonus fifth track on mp3: the feel-good dance-cut ‘Tried’ is an ideal close for the upbeat yet quietly sentimental PIFF002 soundtrack. Pre-order the record here ahead of its May 30th release!

Tom Lustig is the rising star of Israel, which makes his debut in Anathema Records with "Night Bird". The third EP of the Mexican label is loaded with progressive sounds and enveloping atmospheres. This edition is accompanied by remixes by artists such as Kosmas, Anturage, Chaty, Alerch & Fec.

“Night Bird” which gives the name to the EP is composed of a very deep, hypnotizing and melody thrilling melody that captivate your senses. “Adrenaline” is a harmonic track that builds up to the beat by adding melodic elements integrated by soft synths and deep basslines in perfect synchronization. “Overtone” is a tune with mythical brassy and bell synths that ascent and trap your ears making you feel out of this era. 

The remix part of the release starts with an epic remix for “Night Bird”, coming from the greek prorducer Kosmas – This is a more rhythmic version which includes textured pads and throbbing synth lines. At the end, the energy synths evolving into the bassline is well transmitted and transitioned to create a masterpiece remix.The Russian guys of Anturage delivers a brilliant pumping version of "Night Bird" combining dark basslines and synth hits, evolving the effect into the second half of the track that is broken by atmospheric and melodic lines. The last remix is in charge of the label’s heads, Alerch & Fec, uniting forces with Chaty to give “Overtone” a more progressive touch, adding catchy strings and ambitious drumlines.

Almost one year on from his last release on the label, Athens based Alex Dimou releases a stellar EP for Rebellion showcasing his wide musical range over three tracks.

The ultra depths of piano driven lead track Tot , the wobbly, twisted rhythms of Define and the tech-house slam poetry of Constellation all showcase the many sides of Alex Dimou . His debut release for the label, This Time , featured Namibian singer Black Soda, which inspired a new collaboration. Constellation was the outcome, which features South African slam poet Lazarusman , well known for his work with Stimming, DJ.T and Djuma Soundsystem.

"I've been working on this EP for the past year. 'Tot' is one of my favourite tracks, where I've tried to blend my routes with newest influences. 'Constellation' came together almost a year ago, it's a collaboration with Lazarusman, an artist I've always admired. 'Define' was made in Paris. During my live performance in a club, I realised that I needed a track with a vocoder vocal so I started working on it as soon as I went back to the hotel." - Alex Dimou

Anyone who has heard Alex Dimou's impressive live-set will recognise these tracks that will now finally be released on on Rebellion. Other releases can be found on the likes of Get Physical, Audiomatique Recordings and Kindisch.

So exactely one week ago I played at the lovely Bucht der Träumer* Festival on Sunday Funday. After I got up in my tent, really tired, I made my way to the floor and was really happy to see a lot of familiar faces! A reason for this was probably also, that O/Y played his liveset before me, haha, but thank you all for making your way to Atlantis at this special time :)

This set is a colourful Darko-Day Set influenced by good artist I met in the past months and very different genres like disco, techno, glitchhop & slowrave. Really hope you like and enjoy it!
And again in my set happend unexpected things. May some of you noticed this really cool emergency loop for a little eternity :D My Stick didn't have a signal for a while so I had to grab my second stick and look for a new track on the third player! I felt free to cut the loop out of the set.

Thanks to my Crew Rebellion der Träumer* for making such a insane Festival with so much love for details. Thanks to everybody who took part to create this weekend or just joined to get the same experience like me. This sunday was a really special day, probably for all of us. I hope that you all had a beautiful festival and a good recovery week <3
