Holtoug finds!

Alright, here they are: our TOP 20 of the Chymera "Fathoms" remix competition in cooperation with Juno Download. We received many remixes and it was not an easy task to whittle them down to only 20. 

The overall quality level was high and inevitably there are remixes we didn't choose which maybe also deserved to be a part of the selection. However, we tried to remain as objective as possible. 

The following criteria were important to us: Creative use of the parts, technical skills, general feeling and in the end, personal taste. Furthermore we tried to find a balance between remixes which stayed close, but with a unique twist to the original, and versions which developed in another direction. 

Afterall we are very happy with our Top 20 now and we hope you like them as much we do. 

We would like to say a big thank you to all participants for their submissions and we hope you had fun working with the parts.

HOLTOUG TRAILERPARK FESTIVAL SET 2013 (FREE DOWNLOAD)

Wide Angle Recordings is proud to welcome back two artists who are no strangers to the label or to the dance music industry. PHM returns with two awe-inspiring originals while veteran producer Oliver Lieb once again delivers a brilliantly executed remix. Altogether, A Moment Stolen is a beautiful journey in sound design and another push forward over the edge of melodic dance music.

The release opens with the title track, A Moment Stolen, which immediately transports you into the ethereal world of PHM. As if sinking into a luminous cave, the track slowly pulls you in with beautiful yet mysterious low end harmonies. Once settled, PHM introduces a quirky and highly infectious melody that compliments the mood perfectly.

The Seirenes picks up where the title track left off, creating a similar atmosphere yet dinstinctly more uplifting and groovy. Syncopated hats, grainy pads, and playful melody make this track quite versatile and equally mind-bending. 

The thunderous kicks that introduce the third track make a clear statement: Oliver Lieb has arrived. For his remix of A Moment Stolen, Lieb takes full aim at the dancefloor with expert percision. Powerful low ends intertwine with spiraling pads in an expansive soundscape that will leave you spell-bound.

Altogether, the 3 tracks of A Moment Stolen create a totally unique listening experience that can only be acheived by the likes of PHM and Oliver Lieb. Enjoy the trip.

This much talked about Phonetic protégé has been lucky enough to collaborate with and remix with some of the worlds best known acts, such as DJ Chus, Danny Tenaglia and Boy George.

Sakorka is fast shaping up to be a rising star in the Deep House scene, his trademark sound is already setting tongues wagging with his own melodic deep groove with support from Chris Lake, Nick Warren, Vanilla Ace, Filthy Rich, Amine Edge, John Jones, Ashley Wild and Toben.

We’ve literally been buzzing about Jewels Lindt, here at Phonetic HQ. Her vocals are something special, think haunting, mesmerizing and seductive all combined into one performance and the result is Run Away. Heavily championed by our very own Rob Roar in the last few months, every time he’s dropped it, it always sends a tremor through the dancefloor. Enjoy.

PHW goes a bit deeper today, when we bring on a truly amazing release that we got together, with some of the rising worldwide talents out there, Serbian producing act Jelly For The Babies. Being a great influence on the scene over the past years, with releases on every major label that counts, when it comes to the deeper side of progressive music, it was an easy choice to sign up this amazing production. On remix duty you are to meet some of the big guns out there, Nicholas Van Orton, Matias Chilano and Travis MacDonald who all bring their touch to the release.

The original from Jelly For The Babies is nothing less than a pure mint production, superb depth, great atmosphere and lovely percussion work in a blend mix with sharp FX and cool melody elements, it’s world class!

First out on remix duty, we are pleased to welcome a real superstar and a long term server on the scene, Balkan Connection South America label manager Ariel Gandolfo aka Nicholas Van Orton. With that said you all probably know this is something really special coming up here, and it for sure it, no question about that. he brings on a truly rough and bass driven interpretation with his amazing skills. There is also great work made with electric elements and superb flow with the pads, it’s like in boxing, knockout time!

The 2nd remix comes from another producer based in Argentina, this time we are happy to see the great Matias Chilano involved with us. Since his start on the progressive scene back in 2008, he has been a major influence, and we have seen his name on all label worth mentioning. Here he brings on the full artillery of sounds, and we are so happy to hear what heäs created, lovely dark vibes, deep bass chords and repetitive percussion, that will be ready to do some serious damage on any decent dancefloor.

The final remix comes from the one and only Travis MacDonald, the producer based in Canada and a server on the scene for well over a decade. He’s brought on a deep vibe, great bass sounds, lovely pads and an overall lovely production as he always does. It’s with great pleasure that we leave this in your hands, and we truly hope this is something you would love to support!

No longer one of Denmark's best kept secrets, Holtoug's talent is firmly out of the bag as he touches down on hafendisko with the yearning 'Stay In Love' - a tune worthy of comparison in feel and tone to Âme's smash 2012 remix of Ry & Frank Wiedemann's 'Howling'. Marrying the drive and energy of dance music to the singer-songwriting sensibility of his indie roots, it's a delicious mélange, intense yet featherlight, booming yet ethereal: an intricate and playful soundworld characterised by breathy pads,
deft percussive flourishes and a swooping, swooning bass that basks in all its glory on the accompanying Instrumental version.
On remix duties, hafendisko labelmate Yannick Labbé - best known for his work with Trickski and long association wth Jazzanova/Compost - gets all dark and menacing, adding harsh, machine percussion, vibrating subs and a dis- combobulating counterpoint of eerie, sustained tones.
Meanwhile, Martin Gretschmann (The Not- wist), operating under his Acid Pauli pseudo- nym, mutates the vocal into a cooing, howling, wah-wah as playful intertwined synth lines dan- ce and bounce off each other gleefully. Perpetu- ally inventive, otherworldly stuff!

Wintertime is "Livingroom Techno" time - for the 3rd year already, we present cozy highlights out of our repertoire, selected tracks from upcoming releases, as well as two exclusive tunes for your homelistening & -dancing pleasure. 

From the upcoming 2013 Connaisseur releases, we first selected the deep and dubby jam "Caterpillars & Birds" by Silky Raven. This new project by the two Wareika band members Jakob Seidensticker and Henrik Raabe will be released in spring. On the other, we present Holtoug, a promising artist from Denmark with an Indie-Electronics background. Since he left his role as a respected indie producer and drummer, and threw himself into the alluring dark paths of the electronic club scene, things have only moved in an upward direction for HOLTOUG.

With several podcasts on the infamous Danish national radio show, UNGA BUNGA, live performances at the three best and biggest electronic festivals in his native Denmark; DISTORTION, STRØM and TRAILERPARK, the Copenhagen based producer and DJ no longer needs any introduction in his homeland.

Outside Denmark however, what little people know of HOLTOUG comes mainly from a string of successful bootlegs and most have still to experience the musical depth he put into his own productions as well as his live- and DJ sets.

With „Everybody“ as his first release on Connaisseur, HOLTOUG delivers a melodic and poppish Deep-House track both as an original and a dub version, featuring the haunting vocals by Danish singer Silas.

The release is rounded-up by the piano-driven deep-house cut „Ballad House“, which features clever tempo-changes and a driving atmosphere, as well as a touching laidback remix of „Everybody“ by Danish DJ and producer Rosa Lux as a vinyl exclusive.
Connaisseur is more than happy to welcome this promising artist to its roster.

Summertime is "BBQ Techno" time -  for the third season already, we present a summerly selection of open air guarantor out of our repertoire, tracks from upcoming releases, as well as several exclusives for your outdoor BBQ and dancing pleasure.

From the upcoming releases, we have selected one title from the next Holtoug release called "Noisy Nights". The original was released Denmark-exclusive on the small but fine label Fake Diamond. For our release, Holtoug has developed the more clubbish "Dizzy Days" version, which we will present on this sampler. On the single which will be released in early autumn, you will also find an outstanding Kollektiv Turmstrasse remix.
With "End" we will showcase a very talented artist from Russia called Koett. His submission is an oldschoolish UK-Breatbeat-hommage which will destroy some dancefloors for sure. On top, we are happy to announce one title from Noraj Cue's first release on Connaisseur. This gifted fellow from the Netherlands, who has already provided a title for our Livingroom Techno 3 sampler, delivers  a Connaisseur blueprint track called "Burning Eyes". Deep, touching and full of wonderful melodies.

As exclusives, we kick off the compilation straight away with a lovely indie-electronic song by Raw Verse feat. C.Layne, one the projects of Marco Effe, who will also drop a release on Connaisseur later this year. The second exclusive is the tender "I Don't Want It" by the talented danish duo Mr. Leman & Thomas Dieckmann. Next up is Terje Saether feat. Mari N Petterson from Norway with a wonderful Pop-Techno lullaby called "Good Night". As a special exclusive we are more than happy to present one of the most requested tracks from the Michael Mayer's Resident Advisor podcast from earlier this year. Jobe's "Got Me" was only available on vinyl on a very limited UK pressing so far . On BBQ Techno 3 he will hit the digital market for the first time with this stand-out tune. To round up the selection, as a closing title we chose the stirring "Overflow" by another russian fellow called Freska, guaranteeing a massive goose flesh attack.
