A musical globetrotter, Simon Schmidt, also known as Blindsmyth really broke onto the scene back in 2018 with his debut album, ‘Blind’, on his Berlin based home label Cosmic Society. The album was designed to tell a story, like a collage of emotional and musical moments in his life. It was followed by a signing to Diynamic in 2019 with ‘Frozen’ which dabbled in organic beats and hypnotizing vocals, in true Blindsmyth style. His sound has been said to resonate with DJ Koze, Moderat, Bonobo, Burial and Four Tet, however, always remains to be niche.

He first appeared on Connaisseur Recordings in 2020, with his single “Gryllidae’, a quintessential summer track. He followed this with his noteworthy remix for Kollektiv Turmstrasse’s 10th Anniversary release ‘Rebellion der Träumer’ for their track ‘Was Bleibt’ showcasing his capabilities in the studio. This remix was no doubt a taste for what was to come with his 2nd album ‘All That Fiberglass’ in February 2022.

With a strong sway toward live organic sounds, ‘All That Fiberglass’ has a warm analogue feel. A lot of the album was created with field recordings, his self-built instruments and hardware along with the manipulation of his own voice. Its concept? Social criticism on the challenges an artist has nowadays with the digital world. The duties, but also the distractions.

Blindsmyth has managed to create a visceral feeling which is ingrained into every track: a figurative living, breathing audio organism that goes beyond the studio, and into the tangible. Opening with the melancholy of ‘Transhuman’ lush emotional tones set the scene perfectly and is one of many softer moments that allow the album to breathe.

The single releases from the album showcase Blindsmyth’s up-tempo side experimenting with ‘Remember The Days’ which benefits from clever breakbeat percussion layers and a strong lyrical content. Keys melt into the words for cosy warm up vibes, and the listener is reminded of a sound that dominated clubland in the late ‘90s, becoming an inspirational genre for many young producers.

The midsection of the album is an audio ocean of deep emotion from the wistfulness of ‘A Musical Hug’ through the edgy Burial-esque Garage beats of ‘Connection Error’ towards the oriental ambience of ‘Emotion Per Byte’, everything flows naturally.

The second single due to be released just before Christmas is ‘Hack Into Your Soul’.

Its up-tempo Afro feel neatly juxtaposes those deeper moments with warm key and vocals. A secret weapon for the early morning floors that has a strong emotional content and bags of personality. Keeping the energy high on the album is ‘Delete Your Cloud’, which takes a powerful tribal path with intricate drum programming before the penultimate cut, ‘Digital Choral’ acts as analogue cleanser, before the finale ‘Überfahrt’ which gloriously plays out in widescreen technicolour.

The final single and title track ‘All That Fiberglass’ acts as the most dancefloor- focused cut on the album. Icy keys and vocoder vocals give an edgy and energetic peak time sound, a highlight of his recent live shows. The full vocal also showcases Blindsmyth’s song writing abilities and his development as an artist.

‘All That Fiberglass’ is released on the 18th February 2022 via Connaisseur Recordings.

Some artists try to sound like others, and some artists have others sound like them. The duo, Of Norway, falls in the latter camp - over a decade of forward-thinking creations that are uniquely their own. We're honored to have them back on Do Not Sit with their three track 'Sunflower' EP.

The title track's heavy bass is the balance to the playful horn, while the intro breakbeats clear the path for the straightforward beat midway through the song. Lovely.

Following comes 'Scheffeli', a deep and moody groover that goes and goes.

Rounding it out is 'Burnt Sienna', which takes it even deeper. Lush and opulent pieces of sound interact with the steady, bubbly bass and drums.

Laurent Garnier ist nicht nur der dritte Pariser, der Ramona in diesem Monat beehrt, sondern auch der – mit Verlaub – sagenhafteste. Im Manchester der späten Achtziger hat es den begeisterten Musikliebhaber und damaligen Gastronomie-Azubi per Zufall hinter die Plattenteller eines namenslosen Clubs verschlagen, wo er den Hunger der anwesenden Meute mit allerlei Gedöns zwischen Abba und Zappa stillen musste. Nachdem er sich dort die Hörner abgestoßen hatte, folgte der nächste Club mit besserem Musikprogramm und auch heute noch klingendem Namen.
In der Hacienda durfte Garnier neben Mike Pickering und Graeme Park an dem Soundtrack einer Stadt Teil haben, die zwischen New Order und den Happy Mondays schlichtweg in afroamerikanische Tanzmusik verliebt war. So drehten die überspannten Clubkids umhüllt von der schwarz-gelben Nuklearästhetik des Clubs, Woche für Woche Pirouetten zu Songs von Carly Simon, Jomanda, oder dem FPI Project und Tracks von Adonis, Derrick May und DJ Pierre.
Zurück in Paris und derart geschult, wollte Laurent Garnier auch Frankreich den „Summer Of Love“ bringen. Einem Club namens „Wake Up“ und seinem nicht zu bremsenden Enthusiasmus sei Dank, sollte er nicht nur dieses Vorhaben in die Tat umsetzen, sondern auf dem Label FNAC bzw. F-Com Platten veröffentlichen, Techno in Frankreich installieren, mit seinem Plattenkoffer durch die Welt reisen und schließlich mit „Electrochoc“ ein Buch veröffentlichen, von dem sich einige DJ-Autoren ein Scheibchen abschneiden könnten. Eine der letzten wirklich großen DJ-Figuren unserer Zeit, dabei grundsympathisch und zwischen Techno und King Tubby auch noch musikalisch versiert wie kaum ein zweiter DJ. Was für ein homme du métier!

As one of the most successful German live acts in electronic music, Kollektiv Turmstrasse is an influential presence on the global techno and house sound. With regular shifts in his musical direction and stylistic development, he is living proof that change means progress. As an artist who is focused on the liberated space between breakbeat, driving house tracks and anthems for the dancefloor, he is unique with a compelling discography. Also heading up his inclusive, community-focused event series, YAP (You Are Perfect), Kollektiv Turmstrasse is a complex, progressive, and intriguing artist.

Nico Plagemann, the creative mind behind the Turmstrasse project, is deeply passionate about house music, but his sound doesn't get stuck in one repetitive cycle. Instead, he takes musical departures into exciting and winding avenues, leading us past breakbeat, indie dance, and techno to influences from hip hop and the catchy, but always high quality, elements of pop music. With his sound, Turmstrasse narrates his ongoing journey as an artist who has witnessed a plethora of musical trends over the years. “I let myself be inspired by new trends; to me, it is especially important to always bring in variety,” he says. “My sound is a crossover of everything I listen to – and that ranges from soul to techno.” Something that is evident on his latest album, ‘Unity of Opposites’.


Turmstrasse's series of events called ‘YAP’, which takes place in various venues in Europe, also fits in with this outlook. It reflects not only Nico's ideals but also the ideals that are the foundations of dance music culture: inclusion, community, and respect. YAP is short for ‘You Are Perfect’. RA.1000 launches with Theo Parrish, live at fabric: a vanishingly rare club mix from the king of deep crates and impossible transitions.

There are DJ sets and then there are Theo sets. No matter how many times you've caught him in action, every time still feels like the first. Running hot, levels smoking, isolator working over time. You think you know dance music? Think again.

Parrish's debut on the RA Podcast is a milestone for the series, one we've sought for over 15 years. So it was only right that Theo led off our 1000th celebrations. Recorded live at fabric last December as part of RA's party with the London club for their 25th anniversary, this three-hour segment documents the crescendo of his eight-hour marathon. 

The Detroit legend doesn't release mixes often, and when he does, they're usually studio recordings: think NTS shows, his 100% Detroit edition of DJ-Kicks or classic tapes Body (1997) and Methods of Movement (2000). A capture of the Sound Signature boss on the dancefloor is hard to come by.

Sure, there's galvanising build-ups and crowd-pleasers, but laced throughout a Parrish beatdown are rarities designed to shock the system. In a business dominated by marketing, the vinyl master towers above thanks to a relentless hunger for lustrous melodies, moods and textures of all stripes, which he and he alone can fold into an inspiring and exhilarating joyride.

On RA.1000, blissful reggae precedes new wave disco; '80s R&B morphs into synthy techno; bleepy Chicago jack makes way for a poignant vocal ballad. It's Theo through and through. Once again, he proves that anything and everything is possible with the right records.

If we had to say, which artists or labels from the 90ies influenced and inspirited us most, Iceland citizen Thorhallur Skulason with his imprints Thule, AE etc. would definitely be one of our top choices. Under his monikers Thor, Flow.machine, Sanasol or OZ Arists just to name a few, he has created timeless pearls, which to this day, still are true companions in many a knowledgeable DJs case and an essential of every proper record collection. Dub, Techno, Disco and House all are ingredients you will find in his music, however always with this specific and unique kind of Icelandic atmosphere.

A few months ago, we came in touch, initially actually only to toll him respect. However, following avid contact, we had the spontaneous idea of asking Thor if he had any unreleased music or tracks, he would like to re-release from the 90ies. This question turned out to be the bull’s eye: an unexpectedly huge amount of music, somehow lost in a box full of DAT tapes. Over the course of weeks, Thor sent us package upon package of tracks, digitalized from this treasure box. Several tracks really made us speechless and inspired us to plan the Icelandic Lost Tracks series. How many parts there will be in the end, we don’t yet know, but so far two 12”s are definite.

With Yellow Sky Over Reykjavík, part 1’s a-side features a previously unreleased piece of music by Thor, which, had it been released in the year it was made, would definitely be a classic nowadays, similar to Cold’s Strobelight Network, the first catalogue number on his Thule Records. A track for those rare magic moments, we all longingly seek for, a tune to reset the dancefloor. A true milestone!

You Are All Lost on the flip side already was released in 1997 on Thor’s famous Alien’s Don’t Boogie release. A track that might as well be a blueprint for deepness, raw yet warm, a subtle dub house experience, deserving a re-release, properly re-mastered of course.

We are proud to have the opportunity to release such outstanding tracks. Part 2 will be released in November.

Godfather of Icelandic Techno

For more than a decade, Thor has been one of the leading figures in the Icelandic techno scene – often dubbed as the „Godfather of Icelandic Techno“. The founder of the legendary Thule Records is well recognized for his finely crated deep minimal techno music. Beside releasing on his own output, his working is being released on the Berlin based Sushitech Records. 


The passion for electro and techno started in the early nineties – then inspired by the fast growing German electronic music scene. Soon the releases started pouring out on high-profile labels such as Harthouse and Elektrolux. Throughout the years, Thor has had steady amount of releases and remixes coming out and his music has been heavily featured on various compilations worldwide.

Thor has had numerous successful collaborations with artists such as Goldie, Pascal F.E.O.S., Tim Taylor, Exos, Yagya and the pop superstar Björk. In addition, Thor has remixed artists such as Bob Marley, Anthony Rother, Sigur Rós, Steve O'Sullivan, Exos, Eddie Matos (Mateo & Matos), Gus Gus and many more.

Recently his work has been released at the German label Connaisseur Recordings in a series called "Iceland Lost Tracks" and on Matt 'Radio Slave' Edwards new label The Double R, alongside The New York based label Strobelight Network, Crystal Structures Records And Thule Records
