Deep Senses 142 - Roy Malloy (Guestmix by Gai Barone) [April 2025]

For the spring season, the aspect of vocal dance is laid into focus; reflected through the bond of music and words, where the vocalist is as important as the artist. Titled In Bloom to reflect the illumination of color as flowers blossom, the 2025 edition marks the ninth outing of this particular concept, and anticipation for its release grows with every passing year.

In Bloom is heavily influenced by pieces which have been appraised by Global DJ Broadcast listeners across the last 12 months, along with premieres to shape the remainder of 2025; and features a cast list of lyricists the community holds dear.

A deeply-considered reflection of vocal favorites, straddling the lines of trance, progressive and melodic techno, In Bloom 2025 is dedicated to dance music's wide community.

Ignacio Torne is a DJ and producer from Buenos Aires, Argentina, with over a decade in electronic music. His passion began early, waking up to bolero records and later playing bass in a teenage garage band. A friend’s trance-heavy DJ sets introduced him to electronic music, eventually leading him to Progressive House.

Influenced by Cattaneo, Digweed, Warren, and Sasha, he’s developed a signature sound that continues to evolve. In that time he has played in top Buenos Aires venues like Crobar, Jet, Niceto, and The Bow, and his releases on labels like Motion Recordings, AH Digital, and Massive Harmony reflect his steady rise in the progressive scene.

On this Balance Selections mix, the Argentinean artist delivers a smooth, warm set rich with melodic flourishes. Featuring tracks by Kamilo Sanclemente, Mike Isai, Dmitry Molosh, and more, it is a deep progressive set that keeps on delivering.

The A-side “All I Need” starts with a slow, sultry RnB-infused intro before switching gears. The female vocal hinted at in the intro opens up to an infectious yet restrained verse, riding over piano chords and classic liquid bass. When the chorus comes, Polaris’s trademark lush orchestration kicks in, with layers of pads and synths washing over the track as the piano picks up alongside percussion and bass flourishes. This one is the rare tune that befits any season, any time on the clock, and any mood.

The B-side “Absolute” is led by a wistful summertime piano and talk-box vocals, soaked in shimmery pads that evoke good times and romance. The drum breaks hit harder than one might expect, but it somehow fits as the temperature of the dance floor rises. After an extended breakdown, the beat drops back in more straight ahead. The piano explores the space with a new male vocal snippet emerging to help wind down a tune that is truly a constantly evolving journey for the listener.

Highland Recordings is back with renewed energy. It is clear that Polaris is planning an emotionally charged, exciting palette of sonic offerings, and “All I Need/Absolute” is a tantalizing glimpse of what’s to come. Stay tuned.
