Beam Up AKA DJ Delay AKA Brian May is a prolific producer and multi-instrumentalist, originally from the UK, now residing in Germany via Australia and Japan.  Recent 7”s co-released with One-Drop Berlin and several remixes (notably a Sizzla dub rocked repeatedly by Rodigan) set the stage for his wicked debut on ZamZam, showcasing two of the many sides of Beam Up.

Zweimal Steppers is a heavy and heady journey into propulsive 4/4 dubwise with syncopated percussion, swirling keys (courtesy of Frenchman Dubble Dubble), and sonic trompe l’oeil lurking around every corner.  The bright, shimmering surface rides a massive bass undertow like sparkling waves over a bottomless ocean trench. May goes hard on the tape delay and reels out the reverbs in truly masterful style and fashion.  

Higher Level is a next-genre unto itself, a wicked missive from an under-repped area of dub & reggae history.  Part futurism, part homage, the bass and kick usher in a sic-fi take on The Clash (with shades of The Police, and a double-time riddim reminiscent of The English Beat’s finer moments).  The guitar, played by Australian collaborator Joelistics, is a 1966 Fender Telecaster - Joe Strummer’s favorite - hence the brilliant revive feel.  Electric bass and trumpet by May round out a high-stepping future 2Tone rocker guaranteed to wheel at your next Punky Reggae Party.

A Serious time calls for Serious dubs and they don’t come heavier than this. Mungo’s Hi Fi picked eight tracks from which to craft one away, hand mixed dubs that you will not find anywhere else. They are not retting released on CD or digital formats, so only vinyl selectors will have the pleasure of running these versions as tracks in their own right, or for MCs to work on. There are only 500 of these beauties getting pressed on heavyweight vinyl, then getting hand numbered so you know which one you have.
They will not getting distributed, so you can only buy them straight from us at scotchbonnet.net - watch the scotchbonnet website and facebook for the first whiffs of them going on sale, cos they won’t be around long.

George Palmer and Kobo (at the mic) join forces together once again with one crucial mission: Release three explosive anthems plus their correspondent dub versions by Dub Troubles from the mixing desk at Lightning studio who molds the idoneous shape for the sound system’s enjoy of this musical reference.


Ruff ’n’ Tuff -  In a killer link-up, the two main DJs at the label sing over a UK digital baseline, conform a  very powerful song, and it’s mesmerizing dub version.

Every Ting Gwaan Electronical - The song talks about our current society, whose strong dependency on technology  borders our real-world relationships. In the flip side, Every Ting Dub Electronical a subtle dubbed transcription of the chip nightmare told on the main side.


Soundboy Graveyard - Wicked ones, there is sound bomb coming in your way!. The lyrics of Kobo and Palmer, in a soundclash style, are ammunition to beat undead to the ground, like a spell cast. Gravedub - is a minted and carefully made dub version. Gwan, spooky !
