Drake - Too Much (feat. Sampha)

To me, one of the most fascinating aspects of the human mind is the ability to dream. As a kid, I was quite imaginative and my mind was always open to unlimited possibilities for creativity. "Visions and Fantasy" is written in reflection of those memories, or “visions” from my childhood.  I wanted to create the essence of imagination, and the state of dreaming, whether it takes place during the night or during the day. 

Commissioned by the Sheldon Arts Foundation and performed by Graham Woodland (violin) and Gyumi Rha (piano).

Visions and Fantasy

Adrenaline is an intense and energetic work that features complex changes in rhythm and meter to establish a driving pulse that powers through the progression of each phrase. This work is based on the concept of adrenaline and what one feels when adrenaline is released.  Anger, fear, anxiety and excitement are all emotions that are represented in each section of the piece. The instrumentation is Flute, Clarinet, Violin, Viola, Cello, Percussion and Piano.

The composition placed second in the International Young Composers Competition through Webster University in St. Louis, MO and was performed by members of the Perseid Quartet and other professional musicians from the St. Louis area.

FYI: With this project I try to create music that is different to what you hear on the radio. While I believe that it can make us happy to listen to uptempo, stimulating and entertaining pop music throughout the day,  I also believe that we all can benefit from a slow and  peaceful instrumental from time to time. With this project, I want to create a place where you can come to, when you feel the need to.

Slow, Peaceful and Calming Piano Music -  work, study, love songs - relaxdaily N°057

One of favorite things to do is to travel. There is just so much excitement about taking a trip to place that you have never been before. "The Road Ahead" was inspired by road trips that I have taken throughout my life. The driving, repetitive pulse represents one looking out the window of a car, as cities and landscapes pass by. Each theme flows into the next, just how the scenery will change over time. With every expedition, there is some uncertainty what lies ahead, or what there is to be encountered.

The composition was performed by John Wardlaw (baritone saxophone) and Josiah Sprankle (piano) at the University of Missouri- Kansas City.
