Cruising along through the vistas of electronic music, Alfa Romero return to the fray once again. The trunk is fully loaded with more modern, refreshing and up front house music and the disco ball continues to swing from the rearview mirror. Destination remains unknown.
Having impressed with his remix on the inaugural Alfa Romero release, burgeoning Mexican producer Betoko is back to head up this release with his excellent original, “Dark Side of My Mind”. Italian maestro Leon provides the remix this time, taking the track down a different but equally rewarding route.
Betoko has already garnered a reputation for producing a distinctive sound, a trait which he summons with ease again right from the start of “Dark Side of My Mind”. The highly rated producer cleverly uses a subtle melody to create and airy atmosphere and laidback aesthetic whilst at the same time creating real drive from the track using underlying swirling bass and purposeful rhythms. The result is a mood that is at once calm and energized, allowing the listener to float into a dream-like state whilst still locked onto the dancefloor.

As for the first release the promo video was directed by Vito Di Rosa.
The eye-popping artwork on the release is provided by Massimo Pasca.

“Evanescent” is his delicious debut track which is quickly perceivable as having an innate quality to blend fresh analogical textures with the finest US modern-house. Contemporary soulful music which at times rebels and dares with the coolest bass lines while still remaining melodic.

As for his voice, be it standing alone or multiplied to create a soulful choir, Vermont’s vocals move from reassuring to heartbreaking.

John Vermont grew up surrounded by iconic artists such as Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield and Isaac Hayes. A fact which resonates from his heart and is conveyed in his emotions. The easiness with which John Vermont gives us goose bumps is reminiscent of singers such as Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Antony Hegarty (Antony and the Johnsons) and  why not, James Blake. The release is completed with an extended and a dub version (without vocals), as is standard with all 12” singles and has been since they were first released.

Providing the cherry on the top, Pablo Bolívar stokes the fiery soul of this record with deep house beats that draw you to the dance floor.  As the track progresses we find ourselves enveloped in subtly distorted synths and evolving rhythmic details.

“Evanescent” a taste of great things to come.

Following a background behind the scenes in the dance music industry, first in music PR then seven years working at UK online music store Juno Records, Jay Shepheard has gone on to build a reputation as one of the key figures in the new wave of electronic music.

Starting in back in 2007 with a string of EPs on Munich’s Compost Black Label Jay has gone on to release productions and remixes with a diverse range of influential labels including Buzzin Fly, Rebirth, Freerange and Diynamic. These releases have consistently achieved critical acclaim from DJs, music lovers and the press alike and earned him nominations for Best Deep House act of 2007 and Best Nu Disco act of 2009 in the Beatport Music Awards.

Alongside working with established labels Jay also launched his own boutique label Retrofit in February of 2010. Since the launch Retrofit has gone from strength to strength with reviews and features appearing on Resident Advisor, Dazed Digital, De:Bug, Juno Plus, DJ Mag, Pulse Radio and DJ History….and was picked as label to watch in 2011 on Beatportal. The label is now up to its seventh release just out in early 2012. As well as the press top Djs have also been in on the action, releases heavily supported by the likes of Seth Troxler, Prins Thomas, Ooft, The Revenge, Trevor Jackson, Tornado Wallace, Ben Watt, Pete Herbert, Jacques Renault, Social Disco Club and a ton of others….

Moving into 2012 with an RA podcast just released plans for the future Retrofit releases are under way with Jay Shepheard collaborations and remixes from artists like Iron Curtis, Catz N Dogz and Martin Dawson. Along side this there is also a return to his original label of Compost with a fresh Black label EP planned for early summer. With gigs across Europe coming up, U.S. and Australia tours planned and an album project on the horizon it’s shaping up to be a good year for Jay Shepheard!

Alfa Romero is the brand new label which the acclaimed duo of the same name will use as a vehicle in which to ride that shared vision. Alfa Romero formed as a DJ / production outfit in 2006 and have since released on the likes of Ministry of Sound, Fabric, Freak n’ Chic, Seperfreq and Supernature. The project has grown organically over the years and now Tuscan artists Prudo and Lorenzo Bartoletti who are behind the driving seat, are expanding the Alfa Romero ethos with a new label of their own.

Distinctly Italian in flavour, the label will deliver fresh club music with added style and charisma. Keeping their approach clear and focused, each release will be made up of simply two tracks; one original and one remix. All crafted with the dancefloor in mind, Alfa Romero will well and truly posses the keys to drive the floor crazy.
