London based Holic Trax, the label arm of Tomoki Tamura's hugely popular music events, has been a sensation since its first release back in 2012. Today, still buzzing from the support for their recent Tuccillo release and Tom Tam Club Vol 2 collection, the label return with their tenth release and an exciting label debut... 

We ignite with “Studer”, a bubbling jam that slinks and slaps with tech sensibility. Complete with an undulating bassline and jazzy keys sprinkles, its balance of sonic shades will resonate with all summer floors. Dig deeper into the EP, however, and things take a turn towards the delightful darkness…

“Pagan” is an uncompromising blend. Rhythmic and naked as the day we were all born, its hypnotic, dubbed out rim-shots and rippling elements will guarantee instant lock down. “The End Of An Era” follows a similar suit as the low-end spirals further and further into minor-key mistrust. Peppered with psychotropic samples and far-away keys, it recalls some of the most exciting signatures of the noughties minimal explosion but does so with muscular merit. 

Next-up, the vinyl-only “Peace And Reflection”. A treacle-thick chugger laced with infectious muted trumpet scribbles; here the duo take our minds far away from reality while our feet remain on the floor thanks to the classic Chicago-style strut. 

“Worse” brings us to a neat human finale as a well curated spoken word sample adorns another thick, subversive jack-minded groove. Soaked in a timeless analogue-sounding bass groove, trembling risers buzz with drama while trippy SFX add bold colour and texture. 

Clearly a partnership with massive creative potential, Ekkohaus and Rufus complement each other with deep dancefloor distinction… We hope there’s more to come!
