This is Passion Spent being interviewed by Viking Radio's Diana Luke on 5 March 1987, almost three weeks after the launch (at the Royal, Newbridge Rd., Hull) of the band's one and only 7" single 'Someone To Talk To'. The band is represented by Dave Rushby, Ian Sunderland, Jim Orwin, and Mark Johnson., who would all like to thank Diana for making the interview so relaxed and entertaining. Passion Spent were formed in early 1983, performing initially as a covers band (Duran Duran, Gary Numan, Soft Cell, Human League, David Bowie, U2 etc.); but soon started writing their own material and including it in their set lists. Their first recordings were made at Steve Larkman's studio in Hedon (Nr. Hull), before they progressed to Ken Giles' studio in Bridlington, where they first met and worked with Colin Richardson. Most of their later recordings were made (under the guidance and supervision of Colin Richardson) at Russell Webster's Slaughterhouse Studios in Great Driffield.

Passion Spent released their first and only single - 45 rpm vinyl - 'Someone To Talk To' (b/w 'Wildlife') on their own Paragon record label in January 1987. The track was played on BBC Radio 1 once (and once only!); on the Simon Bates Show of Thursday 5th February 1987. Not even acheiving the status of 1 hit wonders - their young hearts skipped a beat to be simply one-play wonders.

But for a young northern band with no management, major label or plugger support, they think we did pretty well to get even that megre airplay.

Emerging from the UK’s vibrant underground scene, Soulstar has quickly gained recognition in his infectious euphoric and dark synth design, punchy grooving drum work and soulful vocal hooks. His tracks have become staples on dance floors and radio stations alike, celebrated for their seamless fusion of two-step beats, 4x4 deep basslines, and emotive melodies. 

Inspired by late 1990’s Trance, classic UK Garage and Grime, Soulstar fuses multiple elements from these genres to formulate an all-round unique experience to underground and mainstream music.

Soulstar has played a number of SOLD OUT shows across the country including Left Bank Church in Leeds supporting Y U QT, the legendary Shinobi hosted at Welly Club Hull, TEKKERS at Hope Works Sheffield. He also shone through as his debut Australia show held in Sydney, proving his capability to visually and musically captivate a range of audiences.

Since bursting on the scene, Soulstar has released on an array of succeeding record labels including Southpoint, Frontline, Wang, and Garage Shared. He has also hosted and featured on popular radio shows including KISS FM, BBC Radio Introducing, and Trickstar, consistently proving his versatility and ability to vibrantly network within the music industry. 

Soulstar is a rising force in the UK Garage revival, consistently pushing the genre’s boundaries and captivating a growing fanbase.
