Renowned for smelting genres and pushing performance techniques to their limits, Counterstrike is respected from the deepest, darkest, most discerning corners of drum and bass right up to some of the biggest labels in electronic music. It’s only fitting that they return to Algorythm to release their first devastating EP of 2017.

The first cut is Vitriol. A mystical intro with a vocal that harks back to the ancients leads into distorted stabs, sweeping build up and a surprising switch on the drop. The title track is up next. Electronica tinged atmospherics connects to a raspy, rising bassline that explodes as the first beats hit. Missing Channel’s science fiction-esque opening pads make way for continually building arpeggios that peak into signature Counterstrike drums and pounding distorted bass. Compulsion sees them flex their tech muscles. Infectious rolling drums combine with a snaking bassline and chrome stabs.

Mindscape provides no-nonsense dancefloor vibes with 'Brightness'. Quickly stepping things up during the intro, 'Brightness' continues to gain momentum as new elements are brought to the forefront. A hefty bassline swings back and forth as the drum programming intensifies, kicking things into full force. Synth stabs converge with an unruly cowbell to increase the pulse rate. Faint vocal-like pads stretch into the breakdown, strangely mystical and bordering upon uplifting, before crashing back down to earth with another heavyweight drop. Mindscape delivers a pure dancefloor bomb with 'Brightness'.

Digging even deeper into their nasty jungle and old skool roots, the Fling Rock Stone EP, presents you with an onslaught of perfectly executed, razor sharp drum patterns and basses that pack a 10 tonne force to the chest! Due to be released on internationally renowned Ram Record’s sister imprint Program, it’s the follow up to a debut single which saw the rise to underground prominence. 

‘Fling Rock Stone’ kicks off the EP, setting the tone with intricate filtered breaks and the war cry of “Fling Rock Stone”. You’re hyped up into a flurry of chest caving subs and breaks chopped together with utmost precision and style.

Up next is ‘Highgrade’, beginning with pads this track is set to annihilate dancefloor’s around the world over and over. Serious amen break drum work cuts through and delivers nothing but power and bass weight energy reminiscent of the dark days, fusing new elements with old skool flavour, delivering nothing short of a production masterpiece.

‘Hyper G’ and ‘Bagleys’ complete the EP. ‘Hyper G’ rolls in with mysterious, unearthly atmospherics layered on top of mangled drum edits building into a crushing assault. It began as a whisper, spoken in low tones in multiple languages in the uneasy night. Talk of a place where the greatest of mecha roam, gathering amongst the desolate ruins of a war prepared for and never fought. The first explorers returned with stories of low frequency weapons, harvested from the ruined depths of a subterranean complex. With these re-engineered into towering relays capable of pure sonic carnage, the lands began filling rapidly with pilgrims from distant places, offering themselves as captives to their own higher mental states. What was once a mere whisper has now become legend, with this meeting of the mightiest clans bringing forth the greatest frequency warriors to stake out their claims. 

EATBRAIN casts a long shadow across the fray, setting seasoned label veterans L 33 and MINDSCAPE into the hordes of adrenaline-fuelled ravers alongside recent label additions MACHINECODE and AGRESSOR BUNX - all of whom have LPs coming on the label as well as appearing at the festival. A tight manifesto is stretched across the 4 rowdy and high-energy tracks that make up the EATBRAIN GOES TO LET IT ROLL, with the irresistible audio manipulative skills of Eatbrain crafted to exquisitely tear up the dance. A reflection in sound of the perfect marriage between one of the best contemporary neurofunk labels and one of the most impressive live spaces that exists for drum and bass.
