P H O E N E is a French ambient electronic producer now based in Glasgow who collaborated for seven years with fellow Parisian artist SAYCET as a vocalist and songwriter on 'Through The Window' (released in 2011) and 'Mirages' (2015).

Dedicated to craft her own soundscapes for the past two years, she has been very active with two self-released EPs ('Dennistoun' and 'Anthem'), a split single with WOLF (ex Zoey Van Goey) and a series of cassette tapes with the first one entitled 'UN' freshly released in October 2016. 

She has also played shows in quick succession in her newly adopted city (most notably as support for LOSCIL at the Glad Cafe in November 2015 and BRAIDS in June 2016).

MIE proudly unveils after long gestation Panisperna, the first practically available long player by Jantar, an outer-borough ensemble historically known for their creeping strain of easy listening most often heard in empty lots and abandoned diners. Chad Laird and Tianna Kennedy have grown an experimental cover crop since 2009, gently cultivating a soil rich in ambient leaf rot and organic artworld chemical compounds. With the addition of Kirsten Nordine, Jantar began to run it through with speculative roots and melodic worms, digesting the tails of lost Euro soundtracks, and ultimately finding in drummer Kelly Rudman the crystalline lattice necessary for vertical growth... And yes, now this broad field is very much in rotation.

Panisperna shoots riffs, stalks and flowers right up out of the ground. From the waves still reverberating from Canterbury Gongs and Soft Machines, Jantar propels green, driving rock forms, and leafs out into repeating rows of complex time and growth patterns. For this first foray into rock music, Jantar has enlisted the assistance of Pigeons Clark Griffin and Wednesday Knudsen, who contribute synth and sax, respectively. Long time ally and champion Jason Meagher (No-Neck Blues Band, Steve Gunn) recorded this music at the venerable Black Dirt Studios.

In 1989, professor Joel D. Funk, at the psychology department of Plymouth State College in New Hampshire, found that the music of Iasos bears striking resemblance to that which people hear during near-death experiences—at the very precipice between life and death, the mundane and the infinite.

By the mid-1970s—prior to ambient’s “musical furniture” and the coming age of New Age—Iasos had his hands on his first synthesizer and had made in-roads into both aborning genres. In dialogue with Vista, a benevolent music-maker from a distant dimension, Iasos conducted groundbreaking experimentation with tape reversal, feedback, and the electronic processing of acoustic instruments (phase-shifted flute, echoplex), working with some of the first commercially available synthesizers, and inventing innovative visual effects for his own mind-expansive live sets. In translating the tones of his galactic muse for the ears of Earth humans, Iasos helped midwife new genres into existence and utterly transform the compositional possibilities for every contemporary musician—all while living the life of a poor pirate eccentric in the Marin County dock system’s only telephone-equipped houseboat. 

Spotlighting selections from the first decade of Iasos’ inter-dimensional output, The Numero Group’s Celestial Soul Portraits 2LP/CD compilation features a bevy of never-before-seen photos, a 4,000-word history of Iasos, and an insight into the life and “crystal giggling energy” of Iasos, the other Greek god of ’70s exploration into music’s electronic stargate.
