You drink too much,
My dear Swiss neighbor.

I worry about you,

The universe revolves such
That I live three steps away from
Your door with the broken handle,
Twisted in a drunken rage.

You don’t realize this, but
The others hate you.

They find you frightening,
You know.
They think you to be grumpy,
Intolerable, creepy, resident drunk,
Concussed rugby star
Past his prime.

What would they think
If they knew?

You speak of anxiety
And let me borrow your pans
And whisper “kiss me”
In the dark
Where I am not me
And you are not you.

There can be no you and I,
You know.

There is no happiness in this world
For the likes of us together
Save scotch whiskey breath,
Bewildered laughter,
And the aching tenderness
Between two broken men.
