The City

I started this tune two years ago during one of the lonelier moments of my life as a sort of a deep depression decompression. Between then and now, this tune has freed slaves, caused earthquakes, and raised roofs both indoors and out.

In light of the fact that the album this track will be featured on is coming out in the next few days, posting this tune publicly right now is a potentially questionable marketing decision, but nevertheless it is arguably an obligatory spiritual decision.

After all, I, like you, could be gone before you know it, and this one is a long time coming, let me tell you what.

Track #1 “Teacher Calling”: Govinda creates a timeless, beautiful track that weaves field recordings gathered from Peru that include: 1) the voice of a Shipibo Elder in the Amazon singing in her endangered native language, praying that her language will continue on 2) flute from a native medicine healer living in Cusco 3) percussion from a native living in the Sacred Valley (rain sticks and more), and 4) Shipibo children living in the Amazon jungle outside of Iquitos - these children participate in an environmental program to learn how to care for the rainforest sustainably (provided by the organization ACEER).  The song interweaves the many voices of the Amazon, the modern world, and organizations dedicated to the Amazon, in a united effort to create awareness and action toward forest preservation. Beyond words, the music speaks for itself.

This is the second installment of a little experiment I like to do from time to time. I call it the "Mother's Mashup" series which consists of songs that curiously go together in very uncanny ways. Most of the time a pitch drop here and a speed adjustment there will be all it takes to show that we are all singing the same song. ;)

This little collection of music from other artists that has inspired me recently and If you enjoy any of it, please buy it from the artists.

I begin with Jim James' first track on his solo release called "State Of The Art (A.E.I.O.U)" and mix that with "Dye" off Tycho's latest album "Awake" which is a blast to drive to btw.

Next we have Tor's "Glass and Stone" from his album "Drum Therapy" mixed with James Blake's "Retrograde". No bedroom is complete without James, take my word for it. 

Then we move into a song off my favorite album of 2012, "When Can" by producers Kettel and Secede. Yes, Kettel made it on my last mashup too. The song is "Ringvanes" and is exactly what I'm all about, mystery forest music. This track is complemented with the beat wizardry of Shigeto with his song "Detroit part 1".

The we take a trip back a decade to whom i consider an unsung electronic hero: Cornelius. This japanese producer is incredible and was very influential to me back in the day. He appears here with his awesome watery guitar track "Drop" mixed with one of the coolest hooks I've heard in a while by Ninja Tune's Matrixxman. The song is called "Enter Me"

Finally we get to an awesome energetic track by Machinedrum called "aeolia" mixed with "85-bit" by who could be the greatest unknown producer around: Woob. "85-bit" is off his album "Repurpose" is a musical journey everyone should take at some point. To me, one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever.   

Hopefully this is just in time for your long summer drives...

'A Noble Truth' was written in a few days, and based on the inspiration of
the buddhist teachings 'The Four Noble Truths', which is the central
doctrine. The track both reflects and embodies the idea of utilizing the act
of creation to transcend 'dukkha' (suffering) and achieve a state of connected-ness . 

As you listen to it, you'll hear that it starts off much more frantic and aggressive, sort of representing dissatisfaction - but then it evolves into a meditative state, evoking a sense of serenity that is simultaneously comforting and lonely.  Then, again, it shifts, and the cycle continues.  

This is more about the process of fluctuating duality than some tale of enlightenment. :)
