“ I am still humble in what I do and need to believe more in myself more...... will be re launching Dj career after finally feeling fit enough again being diagnosed with testicular cancer 2 years ago in the winter with a few london guest spots with my good friend Twisted Soul Collective.....i just want other men who feel it will never happen to them to check their balls and dont be scared of going to the doctor..... i spent most of my recovery focusing on something positive learning the depth of ableton which led to all them previous eps "

When Lance James finally decided the time was right to begin the process of making Swan Song in mid-2018, he was intent on recording an album that would define his music career. A year – and many intense hours in the studio – later, Swan Song has become an album both befitting James’ 60-plus year music career, and a landmark record within the South African music industry.  

Much of this has to do with the collaborative spirit that infuses the 14-track album – in particular, the creative team of record producers, Matthew Fink and Benjy Mudie, and executive producer Charles Kühn.   “Recording Swan Song has been one of the most uplifting experiences of my career,” says James. “It’s been nothing short of a labour of love and is a work of supreme craftsmanship, with the four of us constructing the songs in what I can only describe as a truly wonderful way.”  

The result of this one-of-a-kind collaboration is an album of 14 authentic, soulful, original and emotional tracks, which take in everything from James’ signature country style to blues, rock, swing, gospel and more. With its contemporary production and stunning array of guest musicians and vocalists, Swan Song is destined to expand James’ fanbase from those who’ve followed his country music career for decades to now include music lovers who will resonate with the diverse song selection and breath-taking production.   

“Somebody said to me that I’m growing my market with this new record – and I guess that, at the age of 80, that is exactly what I’m doing,” says James with a smile.

As we started working, we knew there was one song that could be a successor to Get It On - a song about overcoming hard times in our own personal lives. We wanted a chorus and a message that would burrow into your subconscious and become a kind of mantra - Find A Way. Our incredibly talented friend, the vocalist Steven Klavier, was the perfect collaborator for this, and we three wrote something to stand the test of time. When struggles find you, and times are hard... reach down deep, look to the light, and “Find A Way.”
