After two decades of redefining electronic music with unconventional and psychedelic club sounds, German DJ and producer Acid Pauli needs no introduction. His third album MOD arrived in September 2020 as a remarkable tribute to the modular synthesizer, the most trusted tool in Acid Pauli aka Martin Gretschmann's arsenal. He created the record almost entirely with modular systems, reveling in the possibilities and stretching the limits of machines that sing to themselves. 

The first part of MOD Remixes saw innovative reinterpretations by Pilocka Krach, JakoJako and other notable names from the Berlin underground. Now on the second part, Acid Pauli's collaborators bring expertise from all over Europe and beyond, resulting in a magnificent international collection.

Well reputed DJ Tennis and Roderic approach "No Kick, No Cry" from completely different directions. The former accentuates the prominent kick drum and adds new layers to the track, making it a true earworm, while Roderic keeps it more low-key, carefully coating the already immersive and ASMR-like soundscape in nuanced texture. 

"Du Brecht, Ich Dub" undergoes a complete makeover by German producer, DJ and vocalist Perel. With two extra minutes and a bright newfound energy, her version plays like a soundtrack for an aerial footage of a neon-lit city. Needless to say, it is an irresistible dancefloor-filler. 

Slovakia-born and London-based artist Lenka Toma adds a warm touch to "Life Polarizer". United by the consuming groove, Acid Pauli's chirping and bubbling soundbites come alive with Toma's techno backdrop.

"Sublime Frequencies Of Cairo" becomes subject to quite a metamorphosis, too. What was already an album highlight is elevated further by Jonathan Kaspar, resident of Cologne's nightlife hotspot Gewölbe. His beat pulsates throughout the initially beatless track and masterfully connects the dots between Acid Pauli's floating loops, eventually finding its way to the foreground.

On its remixed version, MOD reemerges as an entirely new record, basking in all these diverse influences while firmly retaining the trailblazing lifeforce of its creator.

"Inward Spiral" is taken from "Explorations 09", the latest offering in @Anjunadeep's acclaimed compilation series and it's Manchester producer @jozef-k label debut. The track is an airy arrangement of subtle sounding synthwork that plays like magic against the backdrop of stuttering claps and organic percussion, the track seems to be perfectly aimed at both dancefloors and sun-drenched festival grounds.

"I am inspired by all art that I am exposed to: from architecture to paintings to film and of course music - so it is quite hard to pinpoint a singular example.  I use artistic influences combined with my mood in the studio that day, so basically it was inspired by my whole life to that point, which I guess sounds slightly ridiculous but also very true. I felt there was an ethereal, introspective quality to the record, hence the title." - Jozef K

Our imprint offers up a retrospective collection of cuts from Shinichiro Yokota this October, entitled ‘Ultimate Yokota 1991-2019’.

The twelve-track ‘Ultimate Yokota 1991-2019’ collection traverses through Yokota’s emotive and playful house sounds, employing infectious synth hooks, analogue drums, soulful vocals and an underlying positive energy throughout. Here we take the initiative to shine a light on one of Japan’s unsung heroes of House for those who may be unfamiliar with his impressive back catalogue, the compilation will be hitting shelves from the 21st October 2019.

Shinichiro Yokota: “In the late 80s my obsession towards House music began and the biggest influence I had was through Soichi Terada. I went to his house almost every week,
and watched him perform his magic with synthesizers, samplers, and sequencers. I soon learned how to use them as well and started producing a variety of tracks. Many of the tracks produced during this time were released on CD or vinyl through ‘Far East Recording’. This project ‘Ultimate Yokota’ is a careful selection of tracks from the early
90’s which haven’t been released on vinyl ever. It is my 30 years chronicle.
‘TOKYO 018’ is a track Soichi and myself collaborated on for the first time in 15 years. Not all the tracks on this record is produced with Soichi but it’s safe to say that all my tracks have been influenced by and ‘created’ together with him.

Soichi Terada: ‘’Amongst the 90's Japanese house music that’s been re-evaluated in recent years, many people are highly recognizing "Do It Again". One thing that comes to my mind which I contribute to this song's producer, Shinichiro Yokota, is the excitement and cheers of the audience when I perform it in my live show. With just 7 notes of refrain making the dance floor really pop up. Thanks to that I had the opportunity to do over 120 live shows in various European cities. Many people mistakenly think "Do It Again" is Soichi Terada's work because of the wrong credits on YouTube, but at least those of you who love this record will be reaffirming the beautiful sound that Shinichiro Yokota is creating. And Shinichiro Yokota, you "Did It Again"! That's what you are feeling.’’

We’ve long been fans of Amsterdam’s Keith Carnal a tastemaker of tough, chunky and melody inspired techno that has landed his work on labels such as ARTS, Afterlife, Affin and Dynamic Reflection.

His latest project is also his debut album titled Retrofit that comes by way of his new label “Second Degree” or officially stylised as SEC NDº on most platforms. The imprint is set to be the stable for his own productions it seems with two EP’s released since launching in late 2018.

For this DT:Premiere we selected “Moving Molecules” that has a thumping beat, delayed licks and atmospherics to build intriguing tension. As the hats appear and the groove fully takes hold, it’s the layers super-soft, rolling, bell tones that bring beauty and imagination to the fold. Absolutely set for greatness, this delicate jam will light up any dance floor that gets the pleasure to hear it.

It’s the latter style that infects his Clandestino EP. Rich, lush Detroit textures, sun dappled reflective numbers and soaring emotive house music all combine for a wonderfully warm EP fit for an array of moods. Clandestino don their night and day hats on their remixes, turning out both a slightly more energised take and a blissed out version respectively.

Spearheaded by founders Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard, Hot Chip are one of the UK’s most interesting and much-loved acts. Since releasing their debut album ‘Coming On Strong’ in 2004, they have received a Grammy Award nomination (‘Ready for the Floor’) and Mercury Prize nomination (‘The Warning’) and their seventh studio album, last year’s ‘A Bath Full of Ecstasy,’ received rave reviews across the globe from both critics and fans.

“I think we all had slightly different understandings of what a Late Night Tales compilation might consist of; varying interpretations of the brief. For some the mix might be what you’d want to listen to as your late night continues, after a night out. For others maybe it suggested a selection of music for listening to as you drift off to sleep; then again it could just be music evocative of night time, or concerned with its traditionally ‘darker’ moods,” says Taylor.
Hot Chip’s ‘LateNightTales’ opens with the simplistic beauty of Christina Vantzou’s ‘At Dawn,’ before morphing in to the first of four exclusive tracks from the band - the floating, transcendent ‘Nothing’s Changed’, before Rhythm & Sound ft. Cornell Campbell serve up the heavy dub classic, ‘King In My Empire’.

The journey continues with Pale Blue’s ‘Have You Passed Through This Night’, a silky, cold wave disco track, while Suzanne Kraft’s ‘Femme Cosmic’ and Fever Ray’s ‘To The Moon and Back’ provide squelchy synth-pop. Furthermore, the punchy ‘Much To Touch’ from Bolton-born, Berlin based producer Planningtorock and an ethereal cover of Velvet Underground’s ‘Candy Says’ by our hosts add an element of displacement and detachment.

Elsewhere, other highlights include an appearance from synth-pop auteur Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith with ‘Who I Am & Why I Am Where’ and new material from Alexis’ ‘other’ band, the improv-mavens About Group, along with the adventurous ‘Workaround Two’ from electronic experimentalist Beatrice Dillon and German composer, Nils Frahm’s beautifully evocative ‘Ode’. But it is left to Alexis’ father to have the final word, with an elegant excerpt from the daring ‘Finnegans Wake’ by James Joyce.

“We’ve put together a mix of music which ties all of these ideas together and represents some of our favourite music new and old, some of it directly influential on Hot Chip and some of it music we have discovered and loved, been surprised by and connected to. There are three new songs of ours which we’re really proud of, and which I think connect naturally with the nocturnal world the compilation speaks of, and a cover of ‘Candy Says’ which is one of the first songs the very early version of Hot Chip played when we were still at school,” says Taylor.
