Cryostatic Dream is an instrumental sci-fi progressive metal with a touch of glitchy electronic sound. Having released a couple of singles and a debut album ‘Boundaries’ in 2014, they are currently working on a brand new concept that should see the light no later than 2019.
The first single ‘Into A Dream’ was released in 2012 in Russia by guitarist/producer Alex Kuzmin as a solo project. The interstellar prog-metal traveler manifesto ‘Boundaries’ that followed in 2014 was crafted in alliance with the keyboardist/producer Andrey Sazonov. Having the album composed by a large part, Alex met Andrey in 2013 at a gig in Moscow where Andrey’s band Abstract Deviation was opening for the scene icons Animals As Leaders and Vildhjarta. The common musical interests were obvious so Andrey was invited to collaborate. While adding the final touches to the arrangements the now-duo also invited the guest guitarists whose talent they recognized while listening to their works or collaborating with them. Max of Joncofy, Sam Bell of Mask Of Judas, Takashi Katsunori of Cyclamen and Alek Darson contributed their sparks of soloing mastery to the record.
Ideologically ‘Boundaries’ was inspired by the achievements in overcoming the limits of human imagination and technology in regards to space exploration. As an apex of that, a notable Easter egg – the recording of wind in the atmosphere of Titan, a cloudy moon of distant Saturn, made by a descending space probe in 2005 – decorates the ‘Myriads’. The album sound varies from a Chimp Spanner-like progressive guitar (‘Again Into A Dream’) to Noisia-like neurofunk beats (‘Thrust Vectoring’) through the heavier influences of Veil Of Maya and Born Of Osiris (‘The Longest Journey’).
The project went on hiatus from 2014 to 2018 mainly due to Alex moving to Prague, Czech Republic. The dramatic changes both in his life and the tech world that he was closely connected to made him rethink the creative concepts behind the music. They parted ways with Andrey on good terms and Cryostatic Dream became a one-man project again. As of the end of 2018, Alex is working on a new sound that is fit for the new era.
