Weill In The Mood Nr 2 - for Piano Four Hands

Begun years ago, and since remaining incomplete, my chamber opera, 'The Aria' fizzled out midway. I revisited this work and realized that some of the music was really quite good! Realizing that I would probably never hear it, I decided to transcribe the opening scene for electronics - lending the work a carnival-like, surrealistic atmosphere. Here I use lots of raw samples from Ableton Live, something I rarely have done in the past, as I wished to paint with garishly bright colors.

'Drones Nr 1' plunges into the lowest registers suggesting an enveloping darkness. Here my greatest challenge remained how to mix all the deep tones without creating muddiness.
