Root Angel: Reissue [IC019]

A reissue of Sasha Manick's album, originally released on November 20, 2016, via AMEN Records. This fully remastered edition features two previously unreleased tracks from the era, the original version of the title track, and selected works from Root Angel Remixes (2017, AMEN).

Released nine years ago, this album captured a moment of intense individuation - an attempt, through the alchemy of creativity, to resolve the conflict of polarities: the conscious and the unconscious, Pagan roots and Christian mysticism, primal Chaos and divine Structure, Ancient Tradition and Future Mutation. The music and art became the embodiment of the transcendent function - a living process wherein these contradictions were forged into unity.

This album marked the point of origin for a nine-year cycle, a period saturated with my deep metamorphosis and exploration, visually encoded in the transmutation of the Infinity Base Cross symbol (a new iteration of alchemical Sulfur) into the Vessel of Love.

This reissue marks the completion of that cycle, resonating with the astrological Nodal Reversal - a karmic milestone for the reconfiguration of one’s path, initiating a new turn of the spiral.

In a world currently fracturing into rigid opposites, the conflict I explored back then has intensified, becoming critical at the threshold of a global shift.

The David Lynch-inspired visual aesthetic in the reissue teaser is no accident; it is a tribute to synchronicity. It was his work that served as the original catalyst, opening a portal to the unconscious - particularly through the experience of Twin Peaks (Season 2, Episode 22). The circle was completed by the appearance of a White Owl in a dream, one week prior to the Master’s passing. Now, these guides between worlds have accompanied me throughout the year, confirming a profound moment of transition.

"Blue memory box" is an EP filled with blurry memories from imaginary pop of the 2000's. The range of genres heard in the EP recall pop, pop-rock, dance and ambient music.

I was specifically inspired by artists from this decade because it's music that I heard when I was a child and then a teenager. It's also music that created a special bond between me and someone I was in love with. Created during a heartbreak, I wanted to encapsulate music that was the soundtrack of beautiful moments in love with this person.

It was made with the generative adversarial network (GAN) called Jukebox AI and some cuts. It's a powerful tool that can generate music from its database. It's possible to specify musical genres or the names of famous artists to give a direction to it and it's also possible to feed the database with the artists you want to.

The multiple voices singing are the result of a mix of the voices in the immense database of AI. There are some cuts and loops that I've made to transform the pop music generated into the ambient. The lo-fi grain is inherent to the process but matched perfectly with the idea to make it sounds like it's coming from the past, a past that will forever keep a warm place in my heart."

"The never ending hug" is my second EP, I worked again with the generative adversarial network (GAN) called Jukebox AI.

This project is about embracing chaos to grow out of it. Each track could be the soundtrack of an imaginary TV channel. Jukebox AI produces complex music that feels overwhelming, it helped me to create something between euphoria and hysteria. All the repetitive loops evoke a party that would never end and a hug that would never end."

“Emellay” is the second EP released by Upstate NY-based artist music lovers anonymous (MLA). The project can be seen as a sort of sequel to his first EP, “Wherever Chance Leads Me, I Will Go As A Friend,” released on formforum earlier this year. There are familiar sounds: humble field recordings, string-like textures, with an increased emphasis on controlled discord. Samples from important periods in his life are re-contextualized into something individualized: an interpretive dance between the weight of life and the bliss of insignificance. A pseudo-self titled project, “Emellay” functions as an unfinished self-portrait. Or maybe rather, a blind contour. These tracks were created without an end—with closed eyes—like a story being told as it is written...a story taking place in a bedroom, at a laptop, with a MIDI controller. It is an ode to an undeveloped identity, leaving melodic artifacts in its wake.

This is music for headphones.

A project by a young sound artist named Anya. Krucha is a cliff that symbolizes the inner state of the hero. Anya makes electronic music using experimental elements, broken rhythms, unexpected percussion, and transitions that jump around like moods. Stumbling through metaphors in her lyrics as if on crutches, she tries to find common ground with her listeners, exploring her identity and musical isolation. The music, which resembles a new cyberpunk genre in which you seem to be flying over the city in a flying machine, is calming and relaxing despite the chaos of the arrangement, helping the listener find an island of salvation even in the most troubled times.

About the album “borovok” in artist's words:

"My friend's name was Vova. He was my rock, my role model, he supported me and didn't let me give up on music. He believed in this album more than I did, he was there when I was writing it. I can't imagine my project without Vova and his presence in each of the tracks. Now my friend is gone, and I have finally decided to release my first album, which I dedicate to him. Thank you, Vladimir Borovok, you will always be a part of me and my music."

«Ethernet» - sampling social media as a virtual field recording.

This is a compilation that samples content from social networks to tell a story about the power of hope, which persists despite human loneliness, fear, and vulnerability. Each composition uses samples from audio and video materials that once allowed me to stop mindlessly scrolling through the feed and feel inspired.

erop is a DJ, music producer, and editor of the media outlet ethereal grooves, based in Moscow. In his practice, he works with samples from the web environment, viewing it as a form of virtual field recording. His compositions have been aired on Marseille's Ola Radio, included in a mix by Flaty for Los Angeles-based radio Dublab, and were also released on a compilation by FAUX ex. Kruzhok Moscow Radio.

A sense of responsibility for one’s own independence. Built around fragments of the cult track “Snake Eyes” by Feint.

2. Mais ou menos
The title translates as “more or less.” A track about two states — before and after a difficult but right decision.

3. Soundhouse
A reimagining of an improvisation by Pat’s Soundhouse on the cajón.

4. Risks
The voice of boxer Chris Eubank and a rehearsal of the dance collective Murmuration Concept. "Only the person who takes risks is trully free." 

5. Greatness
About how love reveals itself in small details.

6. Wanna help
Featuring Jobena, a woman from the Soft White Underbelly channel. Her confession becomes the sound of loneliness and an attempt to understand herself.

7. The Shore
The Gulf of Finland, the sound of waves, and the air where the last words dissolve. My place of strength and fragility.
