At the Deep Wireless Festival in May 2015, the opening concert included the works "Inverness to Edinburgh: Sonic Memories and Geographies" by Dan Tapper; "Canadian Radio Trilogy" by James Bailey; and "Field Recordings" by Allison Cameron. For the second half of the show the three artists improvised a collective remix drawing from the sounds of these pieces. 

James Bailey is an improvising sound artist living in Toronto. His main practice involves found objects and/or electronics as well as standard instruments played in unconventional ways. He is, and has been, involved with several small performance groups during the last twenty years but had been recording solo works for nearly twenty years before that. 

Allison Cameron is a composer and improvising musician. Her music has been performed nationally and internationally and, celebrated in Musicworks Magazine, The Wire (UK), I Care if You Listen, and Exclaim! among other publications. She is part of the improv trio c_RL (curl) with Germaine Liu and Nicole Rampersaud and, since 2013 has been an avid field recordist. (www.allisoncameron.com)


Dan Tapper explores the sonic and visual properties of the unheard and invisible. From revealing electromagnetic sounds produced by the earth's ionosphere, to exploring hidden micro worlds and creating imaginary nebulas made from code. His explorations use scientific methods alongside thought experiments resulting in rich sonic and visual worlds.

La bride [The Bridle], which is here released by the Lausanne-based three:four label (Norberto Lobo, Danny Oxenberg & Bear Galvin, Mike Wexler, etc.), is their second album and it is perhaps even more surprising.
What do we find here? Ten new songs from old times, reimagined from top to bottom, arranged with equal parts madness and precision. One dies always and often in the rolling waves and riptides of these songs without refrain. You can only love furiously and you lose yourself almost everywhere. One hears vicious tales sung in a language characterized by insane turns of phrase. Animals have the word and the forest frightens to death, children make love, and if fathers die by the swords of their sons, it is well deserved. But Eloïse Decazes, more dancer than actress, more visual artist than storyteller, more musician than anything else, does not embellish the literal, never dramatizes her narratives, preferring to blow her melodies like glass or scrub and distill them to limestone and chalk, seeking air in the wooly outlines of verses. Her voice like dawn and her curious formations accompanied by the multiple sonic stances of Chenaux are like myriad flares that inscribe a ballet of shadows and lights in the dark material of the themes, very slow and very beautiful. One hears these firmly unstable arpeggios played on nylon strings that interwoven patterns of electric guitar come to disturb or even liquefy like waves. It is comprised of surprises and conflicting emotions. Furthermore, we are stunned by the way this curious album sometimes induces vertigo, with its vocal majesty and fake crawling violins, its harmonic suicides and misleading solos; how handily it subverts its forms, but without fuss, with kindness and in the utmost calm.
Let us be clear: La bride is not folk music, nor even so-called traditional music. It is an album of new music dreamt and conceived from very old melodies, an observation testified to by its production - all in shifting stereo - its soft psychedelia, a dialogue with a certain intrepid modernity (Monk, Cage, Derek Bailey and the "Obscure" records of Brian Eno are all visible from here), the love of inquiry and peregrinations for a present that is ceaselessly renewed.

When I recall the five days of Norberto Lobo and Eric Chenaux's September 2015 residency at Le Bourg in Lausanne, Switzerland, the first thing that comes to mind is Eric's enthusiasm for my partner Anne’s salad dressing. We knew we were receiving two gourmets, inexhaustible on the subject.
This residency, which I had invited my friend Laurent Bichara to record, was particularly close to my heart. Here were three people who are very dear to me in a place that is equally so. And yet, when Eric, Norberto and Laurent left, I was troubled.
After these few days of recording, I had no idea what the finished record would sound like. For four days I watched as two players interacted, with disconcerting composure, for varying lengths of time, at sound levels near the limits of the audible, without repetition. They seemed to drift with the mood of the moment, without trying to force anything. Only to play - together.
Eric and Norberto returned from a first editing and mixing session with 90 minutes of music. Later, while Norberto confided to us that these few days had enabled him to unlearn the guitar, Eric had already immersed himself in the mix with enthusiasm.
It is honestly difficult for me to connect the end result with what I heard during the residency. And yet, everything was already there. Eric, with help from Laurent and Cyril Harrison (who finalized the mix and the sound of the record), was able to rework the raw material to make perceptible what I had at first not been able to hear. It is discovered again with each new listen - more beautiful, more fluid, and always more complex. Without trying to comprehend this secret transformation, I prefer to continue to listen to The Byre simply for what it is.

Norberto Lobo Eric Chenaux - The Gambrel

"All is Nothing, Null is Anything is about the possibilities of a grand piano and my 45-year-long love/hate relationship with it. I recorded three tracks with three different approaches: electrified (literally, I apply either + or - 9V to the frame plus strings, and then play the instrument with the other polarity via EQ-ing to various speakers, totally primitive); electro-magitized (via electromagnetic waves, such as ebows and my own devices); and filtered (playing directly on the keyboard, but extremely dark). These three tracks are then layered and mixed resulting in a busy sound world, mixing harshness with tenderness, that might often only distantly remind you of a piano, however, all sounds share the very same source: my 1912 Ibach grand piano." - Cor Fuhler

Australia's Cor Fuhler is an improviser, composer, instrument builder and inventor whose practice is an interdisciplinary one crossing into installation, dance, puppetry and comic strip. His work has taken him on numerous tours around the globe and his recordings are released internationally. Hello and thank you for visiting my Soundcloud page! Soundcloud is one place I especially like to 'catch up' with my friends' works and discover new music. On many of my tracks you'll notice that I have collaborated with a ton of amazing musicians from Toronto and around the globe which is an honour for me.  My creative work is so much about the people who I create for and with, people who I share ideas with and all kinds of musical influences. Bio:
Allison Cameron is a composer of chamber works that have been performed throughout Europe and North America; she is also an experimental performer.
Her works have been performed at numerous festivals and numerous ensembles have commissioned her. She co-founded the Drystone Orchestra in 1989 and founded the Arcana Ensemble in 1992, both dedicated to the performance of experimental music in Toronto. During 2000-2005, she was the artistic director of the Arraymusic ensemble where she created the Scratch! festival for experimental music. Her chamber music has been released on Redshift, XI records, CRI, Spool, Supermusique, Hevhetia, Musicworks, Rat-Drifting and others. Since 2000 Allison has been improvising with small, amplified objects in collaboration with many of Toronto’s finest musicians and also internationally respected performers. In 2007 she formed the group The Allison Cameron Band with Eric Chenaux and Stephen Parkinson to write music for two guitars and banjo from which a CD was released on the Rat-Drifting label.  Allison also performs in the improvising music trio c_RL (pronounced curl) with Germaine Liu (percussion) and Nicole Rampersaud (trumpet). 

Current projects include: a CD release on the critically acclaimed UK label Another Timbre with performances by Apartment House https://anothertimbre.bandcamp.com/album/somatic-refrain, a forthcoming recording of solo improvised pieces on Squint Press (Toronto), and a Bandcamp release from a quartet with Sandro Perri, Josh Cole and Nicole Rampersaud and myself called Shoo: Horn.
