Aaron Snapes – a veritable UK tech funk dynamo – has been simmering on Claude VonStroke’s radar since he jumped out of the crowd at Stealth Club in Nottingham about 4 years ago with his flash drive full of demos. They have stayed in touch ever since with Claude recognizing the skill and providing small notes and advice along the way.  It wasn't until last year that he really caught the full attention of the entire dirtybird collective with his massive re-fix of Mr Oizo’s iconic “Flat Eric,” not to mention some extremely strong appearances on the bubbling Perfect Driver imprint. 

Here we find him making his dirtybird debut with two spotless additions to his party portfolio. The bubble-jack slap-attack “Panther” ignites with a series of soft subs before dropping into a loopy, choppy robovox hook and a strutting drum dynamic that chugs with raw sonic muscle. While most panthers purr and prowl, this one clouts and howls with rich low-end elements and absurdly chunky beats. Dig deeper for the rush-rinsed tech funk jam “Space Bass”. Wherein a bulbous flurry of basses lick and tickle beneath a series of teasing techy risers before dropping into an icy sea of breezy chords. Complete with a sub-narrative of mischievous loop trickery, every element of the groove is laden with intricate detail. 

Two pristine produced tracks, one incredibly hot talent to keep strict tabs on: Aaron Snapes’ reputation is developing with every single release… And this is his biggest to date.

Growing up in the bustling music scene of London, Aaron Snapes championed old school hip hop, drum and bass, trance, and garage before house music eventually took over. Never one to get caught up in the compartmentalization of genres though, Aaron has a simple and easy guideline in the studio, “I just want to make fun, groovy music for people to dance to.” Further detailing his musical canvas with his imaginative music, Aaron keeps bodies movin’ and beats jackin’ as he returns to Perfect Driver Music for the On It EP out on December 8th.

“On It” will surprise you at the beginning of the extended player with its borrowed minor keys and will then delight you with an attention to detail that sprinkles percussion in triplet form overtop shuffling claps and snares. Up next is “Know You Better” whose bassline bounces like a guttural bayonet and then leads you to rising melodies that melt into detuned menagerie. On the remix tip, Treasure Fingers brings trouble and midrange bass with his edit of “On It” while Jay Robinson reconstructs the melody’s chord structure. Closing out the remixes (and the EP entirely) is Eyes Everywhere’s version of “On It” with a back-to-basics nature, impacting harder than one might first think.

Whether he’s bringing the space bass or vibing with the Amsterdam underground, for 2014 Aaron Snapes is
definitely on it.

With the sole cut on the package, ‘Phantom’, we’re treated to Snapes’ signature frenetic and bass heavy style, laid out over its seven-minute duration with gritty broken rhythms, whispering vocal murmurs and fluttering, resonant synth licks. Howling synth tones, synth blips and unrelenting doses of sub bass with growling square wave hooks then add further intrigue to the composition as it unfolds and re-builds, gradually changing in pitch throughout to create yet another fascinating offering from this rising talent.

With releases for Digital Soundboy, Love & Other and This Ain’t Bristol under his belt (the latter reaching #1 on the Beatport chart) and more as his drum and bass alias Kindred, not to mention celebrated production work for the likes of Little Simz and Meridian Dan, Jakwob might just be one of the most prolific producers in the UK. Now he’s back with something a little different: a brand new EP for Twin Turbo, the all-digital all-banger offshoot of Tiga’s Turbo Recordings. ‘Feel So Good’ is set for release on 1st July 2016, mastered by none other than Turbo stalwart and Bavaria’s finest Zombie Nation.

‘Feel So Good’ is a pneumatic stomper with irresistible synth flourishes and skittering hi hats that sees Jakwob crash head first into full-on peak time dancefloor territory. You can see why the track blew up at Miami this year having been handed to a select handful of DJs, and why Jakwob aka James Jacob can count Diplo, Todd Edwards, Skrillex, Busy P, Sinden, Claude Von Stroke and Justin Martin amongst his growing number of fans.

The EP also sees Jakwob revisit his recent collaboration with enigmatic London beatmaker HiFe on the rolling ‘Excuse Me’, with the pair having previously worked together on ‘People Walk’ for Love & Other. Icy, atmospheric banger ‘Skup’ and an extended acid remix from Dutch newcomer and Turbo’s newest signing TRACE7000 completes the four-track package.

Speaking about the release, Turbo don Tiga commented, “Feel So Good has been one of the biggest tracks for me over the past few months, and the TRACE7000 is actually my favorite record of the moment. Vintage Turbo party bombs.”

These two dangerous up and coming artists first started their adventure together as duo ‘Dub Kulcha’. Many followers within the Dubstep community in Bristol will already know of Dub Kulcha’s presence, having secured themselves on two of Bristol’s main labels; Hold Tight Records & Transient Audio. Stepping away from their Dub flavoured duo collaboration, Oskar (Glume) & Luke (Phossa) take the time to explore their individual creativity around the 140bpm spectrum. Focusing on keeping Dub Kulca, strictly Dub / Reagge and their solo careers Dubstep, the Vanished EP clearly displays oringial forward thinking towards crafting new material for different audiences. 

No introduction needed for ‘Koma’ who takes remix duties to a whole new level, with this version of ‘Twisted’. Since we debuted Max (Koma) last year on the label, he has gone from strength to strength making waves in under a year, achieving releases on Encrypted Audio & 140 Ninja. Not forgetting being one fifth of a newly established Super Group ‘Chonk Mob’ (Samba, Chokez, Rygby, Sepia, Koma)

Dropping on 23rd October, sure to see many ghouls and ghosts reaching for the rewind at dances.

As the long awaited release of the very first volume of our brand new compilation album series draws ever close, we cannot help but get even more excited, this has been a labour of love for quite some time now and we can’t wait show it to you!

As a project, the Digitalization series encompass everything 3000 Digital stands for, collecting together a hard hitting 9 track amalgamation of futuristic bass compositions.
We begin with the succulent sounds of Motiiv, who joins forces with the legendary Dread MC. Following this, the troops descend in force with Nekst, then Gold Bullets and Bigredcap providing weighty contributions alongside the scatty synthesisers of Shahay's ‘Core’ and metallic drum stylings of ‘Occult’ from YZY.
The second half of the LP see’s the pace quicken drastically, with Bass Ravers, Kissa x Jaikea and DN10 providing some incredible 4x4 slappers, adding yet more depth to this already super stacked selection. We then finish up in style and Lalzin popping up with the final threads to tie this one up in wavy style. 
Again, this project is the perfect showcase for where we are going as a label and platform.
