Mixing and mastering. My first sample mix that I did at music production school. I tried to emulate the same sound the professional mix had, which meant making certain mix decisions that I would have done differently. It is fundamentally a very raw and powerful track (and was only recorded with two microphones at a time) and these qualities I tried to bring forward in the mix by mixing in a crushed bass track and lightly oversquashing the dynamics of the entire mix.

Production, recording, mixing, mastering. This song was spontaneously recorded with little rehearsal time. The musicians worked intensively with the arrangement and made it sound a lot more thoroughly planned out than what it was. This was my first true rock mix so there are a handful of things I would do differently if I were to redo this mix. However I am happy with the overall energy and that I was able to keep the excitement of the session in the final stereo file. I worked with the songwriters and guitarists who had specific demands on the type of sound they wanted and in the end I was able to get pretty close to their desired sound. We experimented with the mic placement on the guitar cabs to create separation and definition before hitting the mix stage, which involved placing the rhythm guitar mic a lot more off center than the lead guitar mic.

Recorded and mixed. Spaced pair of AKG C214 cardioid mics above the strings of a Yamaha grand piano. Clean Focusrite preamps. Minimal processing was done after the preamps.

Recording, mix, and master. Recorded the a capella group with 6 handheld AKG C535 EBs. The C535s were recorded into the six-channel Studer A779 console.

Production, recording, mixing. This song was hardly mixed at all, but I experimented a ton with the miking of the guitar to make it sound as sweet and clear as possible. We tried and failed with two demos of this song before settling on an xy pair of Microtech Gefell M930s on the neck of the guitar relatively close. They contributed with a little extra warmth and character to the guitar.

Electric bass, recording/engineering, production, mixing, mastering. We recorded this at Liljeholmen just prior to graduating, using a miking setup we'd become comfortable with over the year but experimented with treating the drums. We stuffed the kick like we never had before and covered the floor tom and snare with quilts and fabrics. The result was particularly pleasing with the snare, a super-tight mid-rangey snare that lent itself perfectly to over-the-top saturation, something I feel i hadn't nailed until now. Most of the synth parts are done by me a couple months after recording, along with the mix as a whole. Forgetting about the song for a while really helped when I finally did approach it for mixing. I felt that I was mixing with fresh ears.
