K808: Kate oh eight

K808 is a songwriter/producer/artist who makes pop music with an edge from the ground up. Living in the rustbelt city of Youngstown, Ohio forced her to be DIY enthusiast from the very beginning. While she admits that it once felt like a disadvantage, it's what became the source of her greatest strength. "Without knowing any pop producers, I had to bring my songs to life somehow," she says. "None of them would exist today if I hadn't forced myself to figure it out. It was learn or give up."

Luckily, she fell in love with the process of production, which her gave her strong songwriting sensibilities even more room to grow. "I'm a writer at the core. Everything I've learned so far has been for the purpose of making bulletproof songs without having to rely on a million other people."

As an artist, however, she thrives on collaboration. "I write on my own a lot and I love it, but co-writing is invaluable to me," she says, "There's so much you can learn by watching how someone else's brain works." She regularly has video writing sessions with other artists and songwriters from all over the country.

In addition to making pop music, K808 - who's real name is Katianne Timko - plays key-tar/sings backing vocals for a rock band called The Zou and is one half of the throwback Americana outfit Wren Rooster. She produces documentaries, short films, and music videos alongside her boyfriend, Khaled, as well.

She's a member of ASCAP and the Nashville Songwriters Association International. In October (2015), she was featured in EARS - NSAI's monthly newsletter - with her song "Young + Hungry."

She's had her music featured on Hulu's "East Los High," pivot tv's "The Road To Teach," and PBS' "Roadtrip Nation," and has amassed almost 90,000 spins on Pandora radio since her channel began in October.

Her second EP, "Runaways," was released on 12/18/15.
