Vibe Quest is the debut solo album from long-time DJ and producer Sabo. More than three years in the making, the record represents the artist's own personal journey, navigating the egos and politics of the music business while searching for positive vibes, open-minded audiences, and musical experiences that transcend a typical night out.

In 2011, Sabo left New York City after 11 years and headed to Los Angeles, both in search of sunshine and to chase a dream of playing deep, mid-tempo tribal music to fresh young ears. At the time, the new sound was being called moombahton, a style essentially created by Nadastrom, Sabo, Munchi, and a handful of others. In its early days, this music was rhythmic, sexy, and unified the dance floor, but as its popularity and reach broadened, it developed into something increasingly electronic and aggressive. Amidst this evolution, Sabo felt a bit lost; as the origins and influences that originally shaped the music were increasingly being cast aside, and his own deep, organic tribal style resonating less and less with mainstream crowds.

Vibe Quest is post-moombahton, a deeper, spiritual version of the genre that first put Sabo on the map as an established producer. A big part of the album's genesis can be traced back to 2013, when Sabo's DJ set on the Robot Heart bus at Burning Man introduced his unique vision to a whole new audience. "My deep, slow tribal sound was finally understood by a whole community of open minded people," he says. "That was really the beginning of the Vibe Quest. From there, I knew I wanted to make a whole album expressing my different influences."

And the influences are many—Vibe Quest is a bouillabaisse of cultures, samples, and sonics simmering together for a 12-course meal of body-moving entrees. Cumbia combines with jazz on "Vibe Quest," the album's title track, and actually features Sabo's own Mom, a self-taught vibraphonist. Songs like "Singing Game," "Afro Fuego," "Coconut Matras," and "Grey Is the New Sunny" infuse pitched-down tech house rhythms with African chants. Minimal dembow rhythms link with Jamaican basslines and echo effects on "Mind Dub," Caribbean steel drums are plated with techno on "Force 4 Movement," Sabo's own vocals float atop analog, sub-heavy disco cuts like "Sure is Pure" and "Black Flowers," and South American folklore melds with deep house on "Timbiqui Hasta DC" and "Drop That."

"My intention with this record is to manifest moments of positive feelings on the dancefloor," says Sabo. "I want to continue traveling the world, instilling these positive feelings within people and creating something meaningful by unifying cultures and communities."

The cover artwork  is designed by Helia Jamali to symbolize a portal into the sounds of Vibe Quest . The image of the centered sun creates a hypnotic entrance into the music.  Let the Vibe Quest begin.

After being on the road for a long time, then coming back into the studio and getting back into producing/editing/remixing tracks for single releases and podcasts was to be honest quite tough the last 2 months. Making tracks and then realising at certain moments that clearances will not happen so these tracks won’t be released at all…..that is far from inspiring. So I was searching for some inspiration again and then I flew to Colombia, Medellin. 5 flights within 24 hours to only get there, starting just before midnight. It is not all glitter and glamour in the dj world. BUT…..arriving at Medellin and then getting such a warm welcome from people who I have never met before. Julian, Clara, David, Beto, Mia, to name a few. I played a private party that day and the day after a 3-hour set at Salon Amador (Thanks to Panda 404). A beautiful, cozy and well designed and decorated nightclub in the heart of Medellin. What I did not expect (I hardly have expectations) is that so many people inside this club knew me and where really excited for my performance. How can you go wrong then? I think I played one of my best sets of this year and looking at the crowd I think they liked it as well ;-) So Medellin, Salon Amador, people from Colombia, thank you so much for making me feel inspired again! The third release of Alma Negra Records' '12 Rhythms' series is dedicated to the music of Eritrea, a small (in African terms, that is) country nestled in between Sudan and Ethopia on the south end of the Red Sea. Drawing from its native spiritual roots as well as the Christian and Islamic influences of conquering factions, this multi-ethnic country is home to a truly diverse plethora of cultures and musical styles. 
"On this EP, we are happy to showcase the music of the Saho People from the Region of Zula, which is located in between the coastal lowlands close to the Dahlak archipelago. The word “Saho“ roughly translates) as “Nomad“, pointing towards a lifestyle in which tradition and culture are passed on orally over generations. 
"As such, the exact source for these edits of the Saho Sound are lost to the murky depths of history, as they are based on traditional folk songs. With kind permission of Colophon Records, we were able to work on this material and are now very happy to shed some light on the wonderful music of this region and its people!"

"Complete with that a unifying clarion call to party, known as the ‘ululate trill’, this is again a call & response vocal pattern, seemingly at odds with the somber backing track. Exploring a deeper, jazzier mood, we added moody piano chords and a balafon, with a subtle but powerful bassline, along with some hefty 808-thud holding everything together."

Next up for Tini Tun’s We Are Here are two tracks from a collaboration by John Joseph and Javier Benitez with remixes from Nick Muir feat. Amber Long and David Bau. Very much a meeting of minds, Our Rock EP is a solid slice of contemporary progressive music.   

Argentinian John Joseph burst onto scene in 2011 with an incedary debut for No Signal Records, since then he has gone on to bigger and better things with signings to Stripped Digital, LuPS, Lowbit and more. Benitez, also based in Argentina, has had a long and distinguished career. With releases on Stripped and Pro B Tech and his radio show, Javier is able to connect with a global fanbase.   

Title track Our Rock is a chunky groover with stripped back percussion and a killer reese bass that grabs you by the throat! Easily crossing over between house, prog and tech camps, this is an essential secret weapon for the summer dancefloors. On the remix, prog pioneer Nick Muir ably assisted by Canadian chanteuse, Amber Long dig deep and create a hypnotic monster full of nuance and vibe. 

  On the flipside, Red Moon is a crisp, percussive number drawing on the duos love of rhythm and groove. The addition of some 303 energy midway lifts this into the stratosphere. On the remix this time, David Bau ups the ante considerably with his gnarly peak timer. Toughening the drums and stripping away some of the percussive elements gives rise to a stadium-sized mayhem!
