Echoes from N Λ T U R R I T U - MATERIA PRIMA. For me, music is synonymous with the first vibration born from silence. The first and most direct from the source of being. The first matter - the primordial matter - will determine everything we experience, know, think and know from that moment on. Depending on the use of alchemy, healing or destruction happens from here. To listen to music and especially to create a sound journey means for me to follow this thread, to find a way to the source of existence, to the primordial. To what everything in this world turns: to the omnipresent harmony. In addition, I would like to point out again and again that this happens in harmony. Harmony means to bring opposites together. Dissolving our thinking of opposites. Letting go of our differentiation of things, instead recognizing the connections and commonalities. ALL IS RELATED - according to Jeremy Narby in his lectures. This knowledge is as old as humanity itself. The Apukuna Breath Medicine series of mixes is a gift in support of personal healing, transformation and growth. Our breath is the most readily accessible medicine available to us. There are many ways to work with our breath and this series is in support of your practice. These particular breath medicine journeys are inspired by my own practice that is most similar to Holotropic Breathwork. For me, the breathing is deeper, a little faster, only through the mouth and only through the chest. Many others can find great benefit through the nose or using the belly. Best advice... experiment and listen to your body. With love from the mountains. @apukuna

[mix002] - This 75-minute journey was recorded in December 2021. The journey includes Native American musicians R. Carlos Nakai (Navajo / Ute), Primeaux & Mike (Oglalla/Dakota (Yankton) Sioux and Ponca & Dine Navajo) and Joanne Shenandoah (Oneida Nation, Wolf Clan, Haudenosaunee). As this breathwork journey was coming together, Joanne Shenanodah breathed her last breath in this life on November 22, 2021. Prayers to Joanne on her journey into ancestorhood. Also included in this mix is a favorite for breathwork - Deya Dova’s Ancient Creation Mother - recorded on the edge of Kīlauea volcano crater on Hawai’i’s Big Island.

On the Roof of Imagination is a Sound Healing Journey that I originally created to be performed as a meditation at the end of Ecstatic Dances. This time I performed it as a meditation in itself to celebrate the Winter Solstice, Christmas, and the beginning of a new year for my good friends at Imagination Hostel in Arambol, Goa, India.

The ambiences you hear during the journey are a collection of recordings that I've gathered over the last 2 years while traveling.  Each holds the energy of a powerful place or moment.  You can hear birds at sunrise on a lake in the mountains of Canada, Argan seeds in my hands in the south of Morocco, gentle waves under the full moon from the Indian Ocean in Kerela and more.  You can also hear clips of the Sasak villagers of Lombok, Indonesia, singing and laughing, as well as parts of the traditional sunset ceremony at the Uluwatu temple in Bali.  I've blended together all of these elements to create an ambience that captures and emanates a part of what I have experienced on my journey.

Everything about this performance is completely improvised... I take in the energy of the moment and my surroundings and channel it directly into the music.

The native flute I play in the beginning and the end was handmade by friend @masterskayfleit (you can find him and his epic flutes on Instagram!)

On the Roof of Imagination: A Live Improvised Sound Journey

It’s 2020 and our world is literally burning for (global/personal) transformation like never before in our human history:  “One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star” Nietzsche wrote back in the day, and CHAOS certainly is the order of our times:  

With all of the chaos, fear & destruction around us, there certainly needs to be deaths-upon-deaths of the old to make room for future seeds & new dawnings…healing upon healing for the old patterns of the past to be fully seen and forgiven…change-upon-changes:  inside our hearts, minds, & purposes for living.  Shit. is. REAL.

Living during the times of this Great Transition ain’t nothing. It requires all of us: our bigness and greatness, and our humbleness & shadows, our inner-children being cradled, our inner-adults calling us out on our own shit, our ancestors at our backs, future generations whispering to our souls, for us to surrender, and for us to follow it's organic-wise-path.

🔸Deep peace--in this very moment--is the prayer and is the path. 🔸

This second Deep Peace mix (4 years later!) is still dedicated to all the peaceful warriors out there, seen and unseen, but there nonetheless:  those holding the frequencies of peace, trust & (unconditional) love, & taking the courageous steps needed to follow one's heart and mission here on the Planet…we’re still in this together, we still are the ones we’ve been waiting for.
