Although for all practical purposes it still could be regarded as “noise”, Poznań-based lichte’s debut album sounds more like an afterimage of genre's established patterns. What it does retain from classic, straightforward harsh noise is the claustrophobic mood and angular logic of being lost in an endless urban labyrinth. However, as opposed to many of her predecessors and contemporaries, lichte does not stop at this forsaken place of concrete desolation. There are moments in this journey where light starts to seep from somewhere between the cold walls. Is it the light at the end of the tunnel? A rendering glitch perhaps? This strange glow simultaneously demands and resists any explanation, making “Empty Dreams” a work of unresolved tensions.
