Ich bin Marisa, in Dresden geboren, 89‘ nach Berlin gekommen und dort aufgewachsen. Die Faszination für Musik und Vinyl habe ich von meinem Papa. Er hat eine große Leidenschaft für Musik und sich mit dem Auflegen etwas Geld dazuverdient. Er hat mich oft mitgenommen in die Musikgeschäfte nach West Berlin wo er stundenlang in verschiedene Scheiben reingehört hat. Mein Vater der aus Kongo nach Deutschland immigriert ist, hat viel Reggae,aber auch Funk, RnB und Popmusik gediggt. Meine ersten Platten habe ich von ihm Mich hat vor allem Funk und Hip Hop interessiert. Letztendlich bin ich durchs Breaken’ in die Musik reingerutscht das lief mehr oder weniger lange parallel. Vor 10 Jahren ging es dann eigentlich erst fokussierter los, 2014 habe ich Warm-up für George Clinton gespielt mit meinem DJ Team ‚the Brides‘. Ich habe regelmäßig Mixtapes für meine Soundcloud Page gemacht und auch eigene Veranstaltungen in Berlin. Seitdem ich nicht mehr Tanze, bleibt noch mehr Zeit für die Musik :)

I'm Marisa, born in Dresden, moved to Berlin in 89' and grew up there. I got my fascination for music and vinyl from my dad. He has a great passion for music and was earning some extra money by DJing. He often took me with him to the music stores in West Berlin where he listened to various records for hours. He digged a lot of reggae, but also funk, RnB and pop music. I got my first records from him. I was particularly interested in funk and hip hop. Ultimately I slipped into the music through breaking and it ran parallel to each other more or less for a long time. Things actually started slowly 10 years ago, when I played a warm up gig with my former DJ Team ‘the Brides’ for George Clinton.I made regular mixes for my Soundcloud and had also my own events.

(gedanken zum Blackhistorymonth) : Ich arbeite mit Kindern, den BHM gibt es wohl schon seit ich ein Kind war. Allerdings ist davon nicht viel zu mir durchgedrungen. Meine Eltern waren mit anderen Dingen beschäftig, Studieren und Geld verdienen, um meine Schwester und mich zu ernähren. Ich hätte mir gewünscht, dass mir jemand mehr erzählt, zu unserer Geschichte, ich hätte mir Austausch und Begegnungen mit mehr Schwestern und Brüdern gewünscht, die so sind wie ich.Auf meiner Grundschule gab es keine BiPoC und auch auf meiner Oberschule war ich lange die einzige. Ich bin froh über die Initiative und Entwicklung der letztens 34Jahre. Heute gibt Orte, Events und Schwarze Geschichten auch außerhalb des BHM!

From These Shores is the otherworldly sound of softly psychedelic, cosmic folk and psych from Hawaii. Hazy, lazy, steeped in sunshine; these 13 tracks are gathered here thanks to Aloha Got Soul curators Roger Bong and Oliver Seguin.

Spanning the 1960s throughout the 1980s, From These Shores offers curious finds from every corner of the Hawaiian Islands — from the North Shore of Oahu (Gordon Broad) to the streets of Honolulu (Burgess & Brooks), the spiritual escapes of Maui (Merrell Fankhauser) to the spirited efforts of Bahá'í musicians (East Of Midnight), the low-key lounges of Waikiki (Dennis Soares) to the disappearing beaches of Puna (Alice Wise).

For the past three years, Bong and Seguin have sifted the sands of Hawaii’s rich musical past to lift these under-appreciated gems from obscurity, giving each song a chance to once again enjoy the slow burning warmth of the sun before drifting off towards the horizon.
