OST Composing Jam: PASTIME II — Dreamscape

Something a bit different from my usual metal covers! This is my submission for OST Composing Jam: PASTIME II (https://itch.io/jam/ost-composing-jam-pastime-ii). The theme was 'dreamscape', which was the perfect excuse for me to finally tackle some FFX music :) 

The songs included in this medley are To Zanarkand, Suteki Da Ne, and A Fleeting Dream, all originally composed by Nobuo Uematsu.

Nightcap

Two 1990s SquareSoft games that made an enormous impact on my young imagination were Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI (or, as we called it in my day in 'Murica, Final Fantasy III). I always thought the two games' protagonists, Terra and Crono, would make a solid team. I would read the hell out of that fan fiction mashup, particularly if Neil Gaiman went ahead and did it. So Neil, if you're reading this, let's get to it, mkay?

My other main musical influences are certainly at play here, too – the likes of John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Jaco Pastorius, Michael Brecker, etc. Not coincidentally, those American jazz artists were huge in Japan in the 1980s and '90s, and almost certainly influenced my favorite game composers. It all comes full circle.

Ocean Of Memories

Hii! This is a submission for the OST Composing Jam PASTIME II.
It's a one-take cover of "Possum Springs" from "Night in the Woods", using my voice and a guitar, while touching grass. Incredible huh?

NITW is a game that I really love. Not only did I have a lot of good moments playing it- tears of laugh and emotion, but it also teached me very important things about life. I feel like it influenced a lot in the way I interact with people; it bassically gave me a lesson about humans: we are amazing, the world is full of beautiful individuals made of love.
So, given the chance to cover a videogame, I decided to go with it. NITW has one of my favourites OSTs. There's so much love in its music that I want to cry of joy everytime I listen to it.

I'm on a vacation and don't have the tools I ussually use to make music, so I decided to try something different. I thought "what if I used my voice and a guitar as the main instruments?". And I did.
The thing is, I'm not a very good guitar player, I don't have a lot of experience playing it. The way I learned to was by playing random stuff I enjoyed, sometimes by ear, sometimes searching for the chords on the internet. So yeah, don't expect some amazing playing, just a teen having a good time in a patagonic garden (✿◠‿◠)

I learned a lot in the process of making this, so I'm very happy for submitting something ^ ^

Chrono Trigger Medley

Normally when I orchestrate existing music, I try not to embellish too much. This time I added quite a lot of extra detail to bring out some more colour from the original track, and to fill it out a little.

I started by transcribing the track into MuseScore, before exporting MIDI and adding it to Logic Pro. Mostly I used solo instruments form Spitfire Audio's BBC Symphony Orchestra Core pack, along with the (gorgeous) Soft Piano from Spitfire Labs.

There's something so special when Terra's theme first appears in the piano in the original version of this track. I just hope I've done it justice.

My cover of The Wind Forest from My Neighbor Totoro. This song has always moved me. I am so happy I was finally able to cover this beautiful piece. I wanted to make it as equally familiar as I did new, so my take ended up being this kind of hybrid Orchestral Hip Hop. I hope you enjoy it!

This is a medley of some of my favorite iconic tracks from the game Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. While maintaining the upbeat Kirby energy, I used numerous synthesizers from Garageband and LABS to add an ethereal soundscape to capture and highlight the dreamy quality of the beautifully crafted compositions by Jun Ishikawa and Hirokazu Ando.

The tracks represented in this medley include: File Select, King Dedede's Castle, Boss Battle, Korekara Star (Neo Star), Ruins, Zero-Two, and Ripple Star Map Select.

I hope you enjoy this medley and are filled with nostalgia for this Nintendo 64 gem.

Dreamland Dreamscape - A Kirby 64 Medley

My submission for the "OST Composing Jam: PASTIME II". I arranged the Final Fantasy VII track "Words Drowned by Fireworks" using free VST instruments. The arrangement is sort of a mixup of the oringal release of the soundtrack, the Piano-Opera arrangement and of course some of my own ideas. After I decided to start on this project I found out that FFVII celebrates its 25th anniversary so I think this is quite the fitting tribute :)
