Iron Curtis previous 2 EP's on Hudd Traxx were both classics and Lights EP - Part 1 delivers the good again. Johannes Paluka drops the title track 'Lights' first up and serves up a deep and groovy house bomb. Captured completes the A side in fine style with hypnotic sounds, a hook vox and smooth bassline to boot. Flip for the B Side for more laid back vibes rounding off a solid EP which sets up Part 2 nicely.

Peter Croce’s Detroit-based boutique record label and party series Rocksteady Disco is gearing up to release their eight project, this time a various artists compilation including remixes of two tracks from Peter Croce and Topher Horn by Detroit stalwarts LADYMONIX and Pontchartrain, and one from the D.C. legend Sol Power All-Stars. The EP has more of what we’ve come to expect from Rocksteady Disco, eclectic yet cohesive tracks inspired by global soundsystem culture and rooted in house and disco. Dropping in early 2018, the “Remixes, Rarities & VIPs Vol.1” collection pulls together an exciting cast of characters from the Motor City and should be on any heads release watchlist as we break into the new year.

Stepping up alongside Detroit producers isn’t an easy task, but if someone was going to do it it’d be D.C.’s Marc Meisnere and Rhome Anderson aka Sol Power All-Stars. Over the years he’s churned out numerous top dollar edits, originals, and remixes, many of which have appeared on his own label, Sol Power Sound. Here, they taken Topher’s original and stripped it of its overt “balearic-ness,” instead replacing it with a rolling afro-house beat and bouncy bass and synth lines. Organic percussion knocks over deep, steady pads and piano riffs before high pitched funk synths take us through the finish line. We’d put this in the understated burner category, a category for tracks that seem unassuming but light up a packed dance-floor. Alternatively, it’s also perfect for home listening. A simple groover that lifts spirits and is easy on the ears. Keep this one in your bag folks, and watch out for the release because the rest of it packs a punch.

Patrick Joseph Cowley (October 19, 1950 - November 12, 1982) was a San Francisco-based musician and record producer credited as an early pioneer of electronic dance music, most notably in HI-NRG and experimental genres. 

Cowley grew up in upstate New York where he worked in local rock bands and eventually studied English at the University of Buffalo. After moving to the Bay Area he began an intense study of the synthesizer at San Francisco City College. 

Cowley's recording career began when he was asked to join San Francisco-based artist, Sylvester, in the studio after Sylvester heard what Cowley was doing with the synthesizer and was excited by his innovative techniques. The result was the album "Step II" which skyrocketed Sylvester to international notoriety. The album landed Cowley a job as a back-up musician on Sylvester's subsequent world-wide tour. 

Cowley remained close to the San Francisco club scene and eventually joined forces with producer Marty Blecman to form Megatone Records in the summer of 1981. Under auspices of their partnership Cowley created a successful dance-oriented 12" single that opened the doors for his award-winning "Megatron Man" LP. 

While writing the music for his latest album, he also wrote and produced the successful dance single "Right on Target" for San Francisco artist Paul Parker which reached #1 on Billboard's Disco Charts. He reunited with Sylvester during the same period and produced the chart-busting "Do You Wanna Funk", also on the Megatone label. 

Patrick Cowley died of complications due to AIDS in 1982.
